Spring is cycling season – and it starts earlier than most people think.

While winter still lingers at home, early starters are already cycling through almond blossom on Mallorca, along the cliffs of the Algarve, or across the gentle hills of Madeira – at 18 to 22 degrees, on roads that are nearly all yours. And those who wait until March or April will find Lake Constance, the Moselle and the Rhine slowly coming back to life: fresh green, crisp air, and the first real warmth of the year.

What all our spring cycling holidays have in common: we take care of everything. Hotel bookings, luggage transfers, route notes – all sorted. You get on your bike in the morning, enjoy the day, arrive relaxed in the evening. No planning stress, just the feeling of spring.

Spring cycling in Germany – Lake Constance, Moselle and Rhine

In Southern Germany, the cycling season stirs back to life as early as late March. Along Lake Constance, the Moselle and the Rhine, the days are mild, the landscapes bloom – and the cycle paths are still almost empty. Riding the Lake Constance Cycle Route in April rather than July is a completely different experience: quiet, fresh, with Alpine panoramas instead of summer crowds. Along the Moselle, the first budding vines turn the river valleys a soft, lush green. On the Wine Tour along the Moselle, you ride from estate to estate, taste local wines straight from the producer, and soak up the spring sunshine on old courtyard terraces.

Southern Europe in spring – sun while Germany still sleeps

If you don't want to wait until April, Southern Europe rewards you with a genuine holiday feeling from the very start of the year.

Mallorca is in bloom as early as February, Madeira is green and mild all year round, and along the Algarve you'll be cycling between dramatic cliffs and sandy beaches in glorious sunshine. Southern Italy welcomes you with olive groves and a quiet calm that simply doesn't exist in high season. The Costa Blanca tempts with orange groves and medieval towns – bookable year-round. And for something truly special: our bike-and-boat tours in Croatia bring you to the Dalmatian islands in March almost entirely on your own – the sea glitters, the harbours are still, and the summer feeling is already very much there.

Who are spring cycling holidays ideal for?

Spring cycling holidays aren't a compromise – for many cyclists, they're the first choice.

Whether you prefer riding at your own pace rather than in a crowd, you travel with a camera and chase the perfect light, you're trying a self-guided cycling holiday for the first time, or you simply want to get away before everyone else does: spring is the right time of year. The stages are manageable, the routes are quiet, and availability is often more flexible than in peak season. We take care of all the details – you just set off.

Frequently Asked Questions About Spring Cycling Holidays

Is it warm enough to cycle in March?
In Germany, late March and early April already offer pleasant riding in sheltered areas like the Moselle Valley or around Lake Constance – with temperatures between 12 and 16 degrees. For guaranteed sunshine, Southern Europe in March is the reliable choice.

When are the cycle routes in Germany no longer busy?
Well into May, even popular routes like the Lake Constance Cycle Route or the Moselle Cycle Route are significantly quieter than in peak season. Spring is the ideal time for anyone who wants to visit highlights without queues or crowds.

How far in advance should I book a spring cycling holiday?
Popular spring tours – especially the tulip blossom trip in the Netherlands or Mallorca in March – tend to sell out early. We recommend booking by January or February at the latest to get the best choice of dates and hotels.
