Discover the fascinating world of the Mosel wines on this very special bike tour. These special wines have been pressed here for over 2000 years. Impressive slopes and terraces shape the countryside here as you cycle through idyllic little villages and towns, rich in tradition. In many places here, wine is grown according to the old traditions. Become acquainted with all these wine varieties on your wine tour along the Moselle and get to taste them in the evenings on the winemakers‘ farms. You‘ll be inspired by the Roman town of Treves, the charming Mosel towns of Beilstein and Cochem as well as the German Corner in Coblenz.
Arrive early to the Ruwer Valley at the gates of Treves so that you have time to visit the old Roman city. The 2000-year history is visible in many places: the Roman city gate Porta Nigra, the Romanesque Dreikönigenhaus and the rococo palace of the electors are only three testimonies of past times. You will spend the night in the middle of the vineyards. Booked rental bikes are ready for you.
You follow the Ruwer valley upstream towards the Moselle. In the small village of Mehring, with its famous ruins of the Villa Rustica, it's worth taking a stroll through the narrow streets. Take a look at one or the other of the winegrowers' farms before cycling to the educational wine trail near Trittenheim. In the afternoon, you will reach the oldest wine village in Germany Neumagen-Dhron, where your first wine tasting will take place.
After a few kilometers you will come to the wine town of Piesport, where you can convince yourself of the good quality of the Piesporter Goldtröpfchen. Stroll through the medieval marketplace of Bernkastel-Kues with its gabled half-timbered houses and visit the Moselle Wine Museum. Along the banks of the Moselle, head to Zeltingen with its famous Zeltinger Himmelreich vineyard.
Through the wine-growing area of Zeller Schwarze Katz you cycle to Bullay. A double-decker bridge connects the town with Alf, which lies on the other side of the Moselle. You will also visit the romantic town of Beilstein, the Sleeping Beauty of the Moselle, and Cochem with the old Reichsburg today. Taste the fruity Riesling from the world-famous slate steep slopes before cycling towards your winery in Treis-Karden.
Today, a detour to the medieval Eltz Castle, one of the most beautiful castles in Germany, beckons. Back on the Moselle Cycle Path, you'll ride to the historic village of Kobern-Gondorf. Here we recommend a visit to a terraced winery with its rocky steep slopes, many of which can only be cultivated by hand. Through Winningen you cycle to the Deutsches Eck at the junction of the Moselle and Rhine.
