The hinterland of the Costa Blanca, the white coast, sets the scene for this multifaceted bike holiday. This section of the coast got its name from the many white painted houses and white shimmering sandy beaches here. This bike tour in Spain takes you through spectacular countryside, through valleys and up mountain hills, passing orchards and vineyards until you reach the levels of the coast. More than half the route is on disused railway track, a so-called Via Verde.

Map to the bike tour in spain

Day 1: Individual arrival in Biar

From Alicante or Valencia you can reach Villena by train, from where a transfer will take you to your starting point in Biar, 10 km away. The town with its many cultural monuments attracts with a magnificent castle from the 12th century, many churches, small squares and narrow streets. Sample the regional specialities here in one of the many bars and restaurants. Booked rental bikes are available for you at the hotel.

Day 2: Biar – Bocairent, approx. 30 / 45 km

Pine forest, vineyards and vegetable plantations form the charming panorama along your route. First you cycle to Villena where the stunning Castillo de la Atalaya is witness to the Arabic settlement. Following the Río Vinalopó  you continue to Banyeres de Mariola. From here you can either go directly to Bocairent or take a detour through the nature park, Sierra de Mariola.

Day 3: Bocairent – Alcoi, approx. 45 / 55 km

The route takes you through mountainous terrain and to Beniarrés lake. After a rest, cycle through the small villages on the edge of this spectacular mountain range – Sierra de Aitana – an area of contrasts with amazing views from the cliffs and slopes. At the end of the day you reach Alcoi, one of the oldest industrial towns in Spain. The Plaza de España and the Santa María church form the historic city centre.

Day 4: Alcoi – Villalonga, approx. 40 km

One of the most impressive days of this tour lies ahead. The stark contrasts of the mountain valleys have their own special charm. Today you can choose between two routes. The more level route takes along a former railway track, through a breath-taking gorge, the path is mostly a gravel path. The more challenging route takes you to the coast via the mountain range.

Day 5: Villalonga – Cullera, approx. 45 / 65 km

The sea's not far now and you can already feel the breeze. You pedal through orange groves and then through marshland inland of the coast. This area is a popular breeding area for birds. Bird watchers enjoy coming here. Later, you will arrive in Simat de la Valldigna, a village with an imposing monastery. Along the large marsh area and the rice fields you reach the coastal town of Cullera.

Day 6: Cullera – València, approx. 45 / 55 km

You can prolong today's section if you like. If you choose the longer route, your tour today begins along the river Xúquer. And then to the nature park, Albufera, one of the most important wetlands in the Mediterranean region. Lakes, marsh, dunes and pine forests characterise this idyllic countryside. As well as the historic city centre in València you should also visit the central market with almost 1000 stands.

Day 7: Individual departure or extension of stay

After breakfast your bike tour in Spain through the hinterland of the Costa Blanca comes to an end. We would be happy to extend your holiday in València.
