Happy children digging in the fine sand while their relaxed parents let their gaze wander over the Baltic Sea. Our family bike tour on the Baltic Sea guarantees carefree vacation days for young and old. The daily cycling stages are not too long, the sandy beaches are child-friendly, the Molli steam train attracts attention from afar with its loud hissing noise and with two boat trips, there is also plenty of adventure on the water. The old Hanseatic cities of Lübeck, Wismar and Rostock provide variety and big city flair on the family cycle tour on the Baltic Sea. And who can claim to have cycled through a real ghost forest after the vacations? Incidentally, the family cycle tour on the Baltic Sea is not just suitable for families, leisurely cyclists will also get their money's worth on this trip.

Family Cycling Tour at the Baltic Coast

Day 1: Individual arrival in Lübeck

The family cycle tour on the Baltic Sea starts in Lübeck. After checking in at the hotel, explore the UNESCO World Heritage-listed old town, which is located on an island. Stroll through the medieval alleyways, sample the famous Lübeck marzipan and enjoy the maritime flair that will get you in the mood for the days ahead. At the end of the day, treat yourself to a fish sandwich on the Trave - delicious!

Day 2: Lübeck – Boltenhagen / Schwansee, approx. 30 / 15 km + boat and ferry trip

Your day begins with a 1.5-hour boat trip on the River Trave, which takes you from Lübeck to Travemünde. You then take the ferry to the Priwall peninsula. Cycle along the Baltic Sea coastal cycle path through a protected coastal landscape to the village of Groß Schwansee. Relax on the pristine beach and enjoy the far-reaching views of the sea. The route continues through the Brooker Wald nature reserve to Boltenhagen. The Baltic seaside resort awaits you with a long sandy beach - ideal for building your first sandcastle.

Day 3: Bathing day in Boltenhagen

On today's day of your family bike tour on the Baltic Sea, do whatever you feel like doing. Whether in Groß Schwansee or Boltenhagen, the beaches of the Baltic Sea are more than tempting. Take a dip in the cool water, enjoy time in the sun or just the fresh sea air - wonderful, isn't it? If mere relaxation is not enough for you, we recommend a visit to Bothmer Castle in Klütz inland. The baroque palace with its Feston Avenue and extensive gardens makes for a fantastic photo opportunity.

Day 4: Boltenhagen – Wismar, approx. 45 / 30 km

One of the jewels among all the villages you will cycle through today is the former fishing village of Hoben, which is a listed building in its entirety. Thatched hall houses nestle between the Baltic Sea and rapeseed fields. You cycle along the Bay of Wismar and through a small coastal forest until you reach the historic center of the Hanseatic city of Wismar after a short time. A visit to the historic Old Harbour is particularly exciting for children.

Day 5: Excursion to the island of Poel, up to approx. 25 km + boat trips

Today you will first travel by boat to the island of Poel, which is just a few kilometers north of Wismar. From Kirchdorf, you will explore the island on a circular route. Your first stop is the lighthouse on the beach in Timmendorf. The route continues to Am Schwarzen Busch. There, a memorial commemorates the sinking of the Cap Arcona, a transatlantic ship that sank during the Second World War. You can return by boat or leave the island by bike over a causeway at Fährdorf. You will reach Wismar after around 10 kilometers.

Day 6: Wismar – Kühlungsborn / Bad Doberan, approx. 45 km

Today's family cycle tour on the Baltic Sea takes you along the Baltic Sea coastal cycle path to the Erdholländer windmill in Stove. In addition to a small museum, a wonderful view of the Salzhaff awaits you there. Shortly before the Baltic seaside resort of Kühlungsborn, you can marvel at the Buk lighthouse near Bastorf, which is only around 20 meters high - and of course has a wide view of the Baltic Sea. If your hotel is in Bad Doberan, the historic Molli spa train will take you from Kühlungsborn via Heiligendamm to the town with its famous cathedral.

Day 7: Bad Doberan – Warnemünde / Rostock, approx. 20 - 40 km + train ride

If you have spent the night in Kühlungsborn, a trip on the Molli Bäderbahn to Heiligendamm is on the agenda today. From there it's off to Warnemünde or Rostock. The ghostly forest near Nienhagen is on your way. Ghostly because the trees are bizarrely deformed by the constant Baltic Sea wind. An excellent sandy beach awaits you in Warnemünde, one of the widest on the German Baltic coast. Rostock offers a well-preserved old town center with many brick Gothic buildings, which bear witness to the supra-regional importance of the Hanseatic city in the late Middle Ages.
