Travel report: Cycle Tour along Danube and Altmühl

Cycling trip along the Danube and Altmühl from 04.09.-10.09.2021
First of all: The map material was better than the year before, when we drove the Chiemsee tour. Everything great from planning to booking. The hotel check-in was always without any problems, just like the suitcase transport.
Regensburg to Abensberg
With the hotel "Münchener Hof" we had a nice old town hotel in the heart of Regensburg. Very friendly staff, I would like to emphasize the gentleman at the reception. One notices, the job is his vocation! Up to Weltenburg very nice route. Good paths, very well signposted. Boat trip Danube breakthrough was a very nice change.
Gladly we would have gone in Weltenburg in the beer garden, but with great weather on a Sunday, no chance. Before the entrance estimated a 150 meters queue. But we had found a nice economy at the village, almost private character, where only locals were - hearty food like at home. The way to Bad Gögging was no longer good and partly muddy because of the heavy rain in August . But no matter. In Abensberg we had a great hotel with the Altstadthotel "Kneitinger". The place is very worth seeing.

Abensberg to Neuburg
Again today in beautiful weather experienced a very nice tour. Vohburg as a stop is highly recommended, very nice city. In Ingolstadt I was glad to have my app to find the way in the city. Getting to Grünau Castle and the castle itself was also a highlight. The Hotel-Gasthof "Bergbauer" in Neuburg is very basic, but okay for one night.

Neuburg to Eichstätt
The 3rd day was from the routing, the landscape and the variety so far the most beautiful. Means grade 1, the other days had the grade 2 and thus only a slight drop. The Donautrockental and then the Altmühltal are special. The hotel "Hirschenwirt" in Eichstätt was good and the cuisine is highly recommended.

The 4th day and I wonder where the time has gone. Again a very nice section of the tour, but this time also a bit hillier. But no problem (PS: I ride without e-motor). What is striking is that the villages and towns are very well maintained and the houses almost always look great, meaning the older buildings that have been renovated. The "Fuchsbräu Hotel" in Beilngries has a very good standard. The cordiality of the staff, however, we had experienced better on the tour. There is room for improvement here. Small correction, at breakfast the expected Bavarian warmth came through again.

The 5th day and it goes back to Regensburg
What can I say, just beautiful, especially since we had a super weather the whole days. From Riedenburg we continued by boat to Kelheim and soon the Danube reappeared and we went back the same way we had gone on day 1. In the early evening we stopped in a beer garden, enjoyed the time until dark and drove to the hotel, where we were already expected by the friendly gentleman at the reception.
