The Lake Constance cycle path is one of Europe’s most popular cycle routes. On this varied tour you will cycle around the entire lake through three countries! The highlights are the medieval towns of Constance, Stein am Rhein, Meersburg and Schaffhausen. Not to forget the Rhine Falls, which you get to see up close on a boat trip to the Rhine Falls rock. The daily sections of the route through charming countryside are not too long, making this tour perfect also for people who are not so used to cycling. And there is so much to see and explore on the way that the time in the saddle will simply fly by.

You would like to book the Lake Constance Cycle Path in the 2025 season?

No problem, because we still have free dates this year.

Lake Constance cycle tour with trip to the Rhine Falls

Day 1: Individual arrival in Constance

You start your Lake Constance cycle tour in Constance, the largest city in the region. 600 years ago, it was the scene of a church council and the only papal election north of the Alps. In Constance, the Rhine flows out of Lake Constance and marks kilometer 0 on its long journey to the North Sea. A few minutes' walk from the medieval old town is the Swiss town of Kreuzlingen with its lively harbor.

Day 2: Constance – Reichenau Island – Schaffhausen, approx. 45 km + boat trip

The first stage of your Lake Constance cycle tour takes you to the vegetable island of Reichenau, whose monastery had far-reaching influence in the 10th century and was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2001. Take the boat to Gaienhofen and cycle along the Höri peninsula, where Hermann Hesse lived, to the small Swiss town of Stein am Rhein with its beautiful old town. Here you leave Lake Constance for the time being and follow the Rhine for around 20 kilometers to Schaffhausen. Be sure to visit the Rhine Falls here in the afternoon - very impressive. In summer, 600,000 liters of water cascade over the rocks every second.

Day 3: Schaffhausen – Ludwigshafen / Überlingen, approx. 35 – 50 km + boat trip

Today begins with a relaxing boat trip on the beautiful upper Rhine to Stein am Rhein. Here you can enjoy the landscape from a different perspective. Continue across the Höri peninsula to the spa town of Radolfzell. On the way over the Bodanrück, you will be accompanied by countless orchards on the way to your destination for today, Ludwigshafen or Überlingen, with its numerous parks, gardens and green spaces.

Day 4: Überlingen – Friedrichshafen, approx. 35 km

Your Lake Constance cycle tour today takes you past the Birnau pilgrimage church and the pile-dwelling museum. Meersburg, the medieval town, is beautifully situated on a steep vineyard slope. You should not miss out on a tour of the castle! Then cycle along more vineyards towards Friedrichshafen.

Day 5: Friedrichshafen – Lindau / Bregenz, approx. 25 / 35 km

Today's stage first takes you through Langenargen. Here, the pretty Moorish-style Montfort Castle stands directly on the shores of Lake Constance. Along Lake Constance, you cycle through orchards to the Bavarian town of Lindau, whose old town is located on an island in Lake Constance and whose harbor is guarded by a lion. After a few kilometers, you enter Austria and cycle directly along the lake to the festival city of Bregenz.

Day 6: Lindau – Rorschach / Arbon, approx. 35 / 45 km

Stroll through the excellently preserved upper town of Bregenz. At Hard, you then cross the Rhine coming from the Swiss Alps, whose estuary delta is an important nature reserve. On Swiss soil, in Altenrhein, stands the Hundertwasser Hall, the last colorful building by the famous artist. You cycle along the lakeshore to the southernmost tip of Lake Constance, to Rorschach.

Day 7: Rorschach – Constance, approx. 30 – 50 km

The last day of the Lake Constance cycle tour belongs to the canton of Thurgau, which is known above all for its delicious apples. Cycle through small, picturesque villages along the lakeshore back to Constance. There are plenty of opportunities to cool off in the water along the way. Keep taking a look over your shoulder, the mighty panorama of the Alps seems close enough to touch! And of course, what should not be missing on a visit to Switzerland? The obligatory Swiss chocolate!
