Lake Constance and Allgäu Bike Tour

You start your bike tour in Constance, the largest city on Lake Constance, which still has a medieval feel to it today. In 1414, it was the scene of the only church council north of the Alps. A small museum commemorates the Czech reformer Jan Hus, who was burned to death here. A few minutes' walk from the old town is the Swiss town of Kreuzlingen with its lively harbor and popular park.

Your bike tour takes you along the Lake Constance cycle path through picturesque Swiss fishing villages and the Allgäu region. The route follows the shores of Untersee to Stein am Rhein with its frescoed medieval houses. Alternating several times between Germany and Switzerland, you reach the cantonal capital of Schaffhausen on the Rhine cycle path. The bike route passes the Munot fortress where the citizens competed building oriel windows.

After breakfast, you will cycle a short distance to the Rhine Falls, the largest waterfall in Europe. Your bike tour continues uprivere to Stein am Rhein and on across the Höri peninsula next to the Lake Constance. Museums such as the Otto Dix House bear witness to the art tradition on Lake Constance. Along the way, there are always wonderful views of the monastery island of Reichenau and the volcanic landscape in Hegau.

Today you turn your back on Lake Constance and cycle through the Hegau region with its extinct volcanoes towards the Danube. We recommend taking the train from Engen, where the trompe-l'œil style facades on the market square catch the eye, to Tuttlingen (not included) to avoid a climb of almost 500 meters. Those who are not afraid of a challenge can cycle through small and tranquil valleys to the Hegaualb and reach the highest point of the stage at 862 m at the summit of the Witthoh. On clear days, the views stretch from the Zugspitze to the four-thousand-metre peaks of the Bernese Oberland. On a rapid downhill ride, you reach the Danube shortly afterwards at Tuttlingen and then follow the Danube cycle path to Mühlheim.

You cycle through the Danube Gorge near Beuron, probably the most beautiful part of your journey. Between Fridingen and Beuron, neither cars nor trains disturb your cycling pleasure on the Danube cycle path. Then the archabbey invites you to take a break. The bike tour reaches through towering limestone cliffs directly along the Danube to Sigmaringen, the former capital of the Hohenzollern principality of the same name.

Leaving the hinterland of Lake Constance behind today you follow the Danube cycle path. First you will pass through Hundersingen, an influential Celtic town in the Bronze Age, which comes to life in the open-air grounds of the Heuneburg Museum. Then turn south into the Upper Swabian spa landscape. Your destination Bad Waldsee is a mud spa and Kneipp health resort with a baroque old town. The world's first and only spaetzle museum awaits your visit here.

Today's bike tour takes you from Upper Swabia into the beautiful Allgäu countryside to Wolfegg. Take a trip back to the time of farming families and day laborers in the extensive farmhouse museum. Via the climatic health resort of Kißlegg, you reach Wangen, the former imperial town. The townscape is characterized by old town towers, countless fountains and baroque inn signs.

Today's cycle tour takes you along the Danube – Lake Constance cycle path leaving behind the Allgäu. Your bike tour today leads you through the hop-growing region of Tettnang a beautiful undulating landscape. Apple trees and orchards herald the arrival of Lake Constance early on. In Kressbronn you reach the Lake Constance cycle path, which you follow directly along the shore. From the promenade in Friedrichshafen, you have a wonderful view across Lake Constance to the Swiss peaks. The catamaran will take you back to Constance.
