Day 1: Individual arrival in Bayreuth

Welcome to your cycling tour through Franconia! Use the time to explore the home of the world-famous Richard Wagner Festival. You should not only pay a visit to the Festspielhaus and the Margravial Opera House. Take a stroll through the impressive Hermitage Museum and experience magnificent architecture in the middle of the historic park.

Day 2: Bayreuth – Castle Art City, approx. 45 / 55 km

On your first day of cycling, you follow the Main cycle path and experience how the river becomes ever more powerful. You cross the Main several times on covered wooden bridges and historic sandstone bridges and cycle idyllically through alluvial forests and meadows. You pass small villages and soon reach the beautiful town of Burgkunstadt. The small but charming town impresses with its half-timbered houses built close together in the town center. Pay a visit to the German Shooter Museum - it's well worth it!

Day 3: Burgkunststadt – Bamberg, approx. 60 km

Continue cycling along the Main Cycle Path, past Lichtenfels, the home of basket weavers, and Bad Staffelstein. From a distance, you can already see Banz Abbey and the Vierzehnheiligen Basilica. Continue past colorful meadows with old fruit trees and through small, picturesque villages until you soon reach Bamberg. Visit one of the many breweries and sample a Schlenkerla - a spicy, aromatic smoked beer that is only produced in Bamberg.

Day 4: Bamberg – Erlangen, approx. 55 km

Today you follow the Regnitz cycle path upstream. Cycle relaxed through the river valley, with the Steigerwald forest on your right and Franconian Switzerland on your left. Past impressive weirs and large locks, you reach Forchheim. Here, the Kellerwald is the perfect place to take a break. You can enjoy a Franconian snack in what is probably the largest beer garden in the world before leisurely cycling to Erlangen.

Day 5: Erlangen – Hersbruck, approx. 60 km

You cycle a few kilometers to the south. You will soon reach Nuremberg, the largest city in Franconia. Be sure to take a stroll through the old town, which is well worth seeing, before getting back on the saddle. Cycle against the current on mostly flat paths along the Pegnitz. You cycle through green meadows and shady alluvial forest past the Wöhrder See and the Pegnitzauen. Another break is worthwhile in the picturesque little town of Lauf with its historic old town and imperial castle.

Day 6: Hersbruck – Pegnitz, approx. 50 km

Today you take the Pegnitz Valley cycle path under your wheels, which first takes you to Velden and Neuhaus an der Pegnitz. The river meanders through a narrow valley here. To the right and left, it is flanked by mountains and steep, jagged rocks. For the most part, your cycle tour through Franconia on this stage takes you along country lanes or forest paths, which only adds to the charm of the landscape. Before you roll into Pegnitz, you cross the Veldensteiner Forst with its extensive pine and spruce forests on hilly paths.

The last day of your cycling tour through Franconia takes you along mostly flat paths, past meadows and fields, through smaller and larger towns. Your destination is the festival city of Bayreuth. You should take plenty of time to explore this town steeped in tradition. Bayreuth has an extensive network of cycle paths. So you can explore the historical and cultural sights comfortably on the saddle. Recharge your batteries in one of the numerous beer gardens and restaurants in the city center.
