Welcome and Hey! The bike tour from Hamburg to Copenhagen is a wonderful way to explore northern Germany and Denmark in a relaxed manner. It takes you to historic towns, through rural idylls and along picturesque coastlines - with the perfect mix of nature, culture and unforgettable views. The journey starts in the Hanseatic city of Hamburg. Along the Elbe, you reach the Kiel Canal, which takes you to the heart of the fjord city of Kiel. After a detour to Holstein Switzerland, you are already on your way to the sunshine island Fehmarn. A ferry ride takes you to the Danish island of Lolland. On the cycle tour from Hamburg to Copenhagen, you will also get to know the islands of Falster, Bogø and Møn. You can cycle to the impressive chalk cliffs on Møn on an excursion to the east of the island. The last stages of the cycle tour from Hamburg to Copenhagen take you across the island of Zealand. Passing the chalk cliffs Stevns Klint and the small town of Køge, you will reach your destination of Copenhagen after around two weeks and with many impressions in your luggage.

Day 1: Individual arrival in Hamburg

Moin Moin on your bike tour from Hamburg to Copenhagen! The Hanseatic city of Hamburg not only looks back on an eventful history, it also has all kinds of sights to offer. After checking into your hotel, grab your bike and explore the city. Pay a visit to the Speicherstadt warehouse district, the Kontorhaus district and the harbor, treat yourself to a fish sandwich and soak up the maritime flair.

Day 2: Hamburg – Glückstadt, approx. 55 km

Leaving the gates of Hamburg behind you, you cycle along the Elbe towards the North Sea. The first stop is at the ship welcoming station in Wedel. Ships approaching or leaving the port of Hamburg are greeted or bid farewell here with a raised or lowered flag. The route continues briskly to Glückstadt. The culinary specialty of the town, which was designed on a drawing board, is Glückstädter Matjes. Known far beyond the town's borders, it has been made by hand in the traditional way since the end of the 19th century.

Day 3: Glückstadt – St. Michaelisdonn / Schafstedt, approx. 40 / 50 km

Following the course of the Elbe, you reach Brunsbüttel and thus the start of the Kiel Canal, which went into operation in 1895. With a length of around 100 kilometers, it is one of the busiest artificial waterways in the world. Visit the canal's locks before you have to say goodbye to the water for the day. Head into the Dithmarschen region to St. Michaelisdonn, which is famous for the Dutch mill Edda . You will spend the night in St. Michaelisdonn or in Schafstedt, just a few kilometers away.

Day 4: St. Michaelisdonn / Schafstedt – Rendsburg, approx. 65 / 50 km

Back on the Kiel Canal, today's stage of your bike tour from Hamburg to Copenhagen takes you along the waterway at a relaxed pace. If you like, you can switch sides of the canal from time to time as small and large ships pass you by. Another highlight awaits you in Rendsburg: the high bridge. It carries a transporter bridge that transports pedestrians and vehicles. Rendsburg's old town is also worth a visit. If you follow the blue line, you won't miss any of the city's sights.

Day 5: Rendsburg – Kiel, approx. 45 km

Today you will cycle to the state capital of Schleswig-Holstein. After checking in at the hotel, take a stroll through the city, which was founded in the 13th century. From the Hörn, the harbor tip at the southernmost end of the Kiel Fjord, you can watch the hustle and bustle on the water. At Schwedenkai, you have the opportunity to watch cruise ships arriving and learn more about the history of the city at the Maritime Museum. If you are drawn to the sea, hop back on your bike and visit Falckensteiner Strand.

Day 6: Kiel – Eutin, approx. 55 km

Today's stage of your bike tour from Hamburg to Copenhagen takes you through the gently undulating landscape of Holstein Switzerland, which is characterized by lakes. On the way, Lake Lank invites you to take a refreshing dip. The route continues to Plön. The town's landmark is the impressive Renaissance castle from the 17th century. Once you reach Eutin, a magical castle awaits you here too, situated directly on a lake. Take a journey through 850 years of history in the castle and stroll through the English landscape garden.

Day 7: Eutin – Heiligenhafen, approx. 60 km

From Eutin, the route takes you through a varied landscape with a mixture of rural paths, forests and wide fields. Kilometer by kilometer, you get closer to the Baltic Sea coast. Oldenburg in Holstein is the perfect place for a longer break. Learn more about the history of the Slavs in East Holstein at the Wall Museum. Heiligenhafen is not only a popular vacation resort, but also a place that makes the hearts of water sports enthusiasts such as surfers and sailors beat faster. The maritime atmosphere is best enjoyed on the pier promenade.

Day 8: Heiligenhafen – Maribo / Bandholm, approx. 60 / 65 km + ferry ride

First, the Baltic Sea Coast Cycle Route takes you to the island of Fehmarn, Germany's third largest island. Enjoy a coffee in Burg, the main town on Fehmarn, before continuing on to Puttgarden. Cross over to the Danish island of Lolland by ferry. Once you reach the port of Rødby, you cycle along flat paths towards the cozy town of Maribo. The cathedral church on the banks of Søndersø is particularly worth seeing. A few kilometers to the north is Bandholm. You spend the night in Bandholm or in Maribo.

Day 9: Maribo – Nykøbing Falster / Marielyst, approx. 30 - 50 km

On today's stage of your bike tour from Hamburg to Copenhagen, you have the opportunity to immerse yourself in the animal kingdom of all seven continents. The Knuthenborg Safari Park between Bandholm and Maribo offers you the opportunity to do just that. Cycle on flat cycle paths to the east of the island of Lolland. You reach Nykøbing Falster via Guldborgsund. Colourful little houses, the 43-metre-high water tower and the monastery church characterize the harbour town. A few kilometers away you reach the Baltic Sea in Marielyst. The town has one of the most beautiful beaches in Denmark.

Day 10: Nykøbing Falster – Stege, approx. 70 km + ferry ride

At first, you are almost free of inclines not far from the coast. Enjoy fantastic views of the sea and take a break on one beach or another. Hesnæs is also a good place to stop. The village is characterized by its striking old houses, which are wrapped in thatch both on the walls and on the roof - unique in Denmark. A ferry takes you from Stubbekøbing to the island of Bogø. You reach the island of Møn via a causeway. The main town on Møn is Stege, where you will spend the night today.

Day 11: Excursion to Møns Klint, approx. 55 km

Getting to know the island of Møn is the focus of your excursion today. Møn is a popular travel destination that leaves an impression thanks to its unique blend of breathtaking nature and wild unspoiled nature. Møns Klint, which is up to 128 meters high, is undoubtedly the highlight of the island. The cliff face is around seven kilometers long. You can find out more about the formation of the cliffs and Denmark at the GeoCenter Møns Klint. Cycle back to Stege through forests and fields.

Day 12: Stege – Rødvig, approx. 70 km

The bike tour from Hamburg to Copenhagen takes you to Zealand, the largest island in the Baltic Sea and Denmark. Expect slight inclines as you cycle north. After passing the small town of Præstø, you will reach Faxe Ladeplads after a few kilometers. Enjoy a break on the beach nearby before continuing to your destination for the day, Rødvig. The town's landmark is the flint kiln, a historic flint oven located not far from the harbor.

Day 13: Rødvig – Copenhagen, approx. 80 km or 35 km + train ride

Just a stone's throw from Rødvig is the impressive Stevns Klint cliff, which you will pass on your way to Copenhagen. You can find out more about the UNESCO World Heritage Site at the Stevns Klint Experience visitor center. Continue to the picturesque harbor town of Køge. From here, you can either follow the cycle path to Copenhagen or shorten the route by taking the train. Copenhagen's excellent cycle path system will inspire you just as much as the city's numerous sights.
