Day 1: Individual arrival in Würzburg
Your bike tour starts in Würzburg which served as a royal seat in former times. Over 1300 years old, the city´s impressive character has still been preserved though. After check-in you should go for a short city walk. We recommend to see Marienberg Fortress, the city´s landmark, as well as Würzburg Residence and the Old Bridge across the River Main. Let this day end with a glass of refreshing wine – cheers!
Day 2: Würzburg – Gemünden / Lohr, approx. 45 / 60 km
On the river Main Cycle Route you will be riding northeast. Not long after having left Würzburg, you will reach Veitshöchheim with its castle that served as a Bishops´ summer residence in former times. The attached Rokoko-Garden is one of Europe´s most beautiful gardens. Cycling along the river Main you reach Gemünden, known as the Gate to Spessart. From Castle Scherenburg, high above the city, you have a wonderful view to the Main valley. Just a stone´s throw away, you come to Lohr, the City of Snow White. You will stay in Gemünden or Lohr over night.
Day 3: Lohr – Wertheim, approx. 45 / 60 km
Passing by vineyards, further you cycle the Spessart-Mainland region. The Franck-Haus in Marktheidenfeld is definitely worth a visit. A legend tells that in this shiny blue house the technique of producing sparkling vine was once invented. On your way to Wertheim you should visit the impressive ruins of Castle Wertheim. Built in the 12th century, it still provides an amazing view over the River Main. Afterwards, you should take a walk through the nice old town of Wertheim. You will stay in Marktheidenfeld or Wertheim over night.
Day 4: Wertheim – Würzburg, ca. 45 km
Today´s leg of your Bike Tour around Würzburg first leads you to Bettingen. Following the Aalbach Cycle Path you will leave the river Main behind. This interesting route holds some challenging ascents for you and leads through the charming Aarbach Valley. Allow yourself for a short stop at the former monastery in Holzkirchen, and enjoy the atmosphere in one of Würzburg´s traditional Franconian pubs (Bäck) where guests are allowed to bring their own food.
Day 5: Würzburg – Volkach / Sommerach, approx. 30 / 35 km
From Würzburg you will be following the 2-Franken-Radweg on your Bike Tour around Würzburg, passing by large fields of corn and vegetables. You reach Volkach, one of the most important winery places in Franconia. Try some of the regionals wines in a typical Weinstube in the old town. You will stay in Volkach or Sommerach over night.
Day 6: Volkach – Würzburg, approx. 65 km
Along the river Main you will be cycling to the wine-trading city of Kitzingen with its landmark, the Falterturm which is called the Crooked Tower of Kitzingen. Further you go to Ochsenfurt at the tip of the Main Triangle. The old town is nearly completely surrounded by a fortress. Enjoy a glass of wine before cycling to Würzburg, today´s destination.
