Take a stroll through the town to see for yourself that he was wrong and that Husum has colorful houses and a colorful cultural offering. Alternatively, grab your bike and take your first detour to the North Sea.
After breakfast, take the train to Sylt (included). The Hindenburgdamm, which has connected the island to the mainland for around 100 years, takes you to Westerland. Once there, you are spoiled for choice: whether you head south to the Hörnum lighthouse or north to List for a fish sandwich - Sylt has a 200-kilometre network of cycle paths, offering you numerous options for a short or longer cycle tour. In the evening, you return to Husum by train.
Leaving Husum behind you, you cycle inland towards Friedrichstadt. The town known as the Dutch townwas founded in the 17th century. Settled Dutch immigrants gave the planned town a townscape characterized by canals and gabled houses - you'll feel like you've been transported to the Netherlands. Continue on to Tönning. Visit the Multimar Wattforum, which takes you into the world of the Wadden Sea. You will spend the night in Tönning or in nearby Lunden.
One of Germany's most famous beaches is the destination of today's excursion - St. Peter-Ording. You will first reach the coastal town comfortably by train. You will not only be impressed by the approximately 12-kilometre-long sandy beach, but also by the characteristic pile dwellings, which are real eye-catchers. They are unique on the German coast and today serve as restaurants or lifeguards. With your lungs full of fresh North Sea air, you cycle back to Tönning or Lunden.
Today's stage of your cycle tour between Sylt and Hamburg first takes you to the Eidersperrwerk, Germany's largest coastal protection structure. You then cycle along the coast to Büsum. The small seaside resort is famous for its Büsum crabs - try them! The route continues into the charming landscape of Dithmarschen. The cathedral in Meldorf will catch your eye from afar. The origins of the brick Gothic-style church date back to the 9th century. Continue to your destination for the day, St. Michaelisdonn. The Holländermühle Edda is the town's landmark.
