Bike and Boat on the Danube from Passau to Budapest is certainly one of the classics among cycling tours. And rightly so! Your journey begins in the three-river city of Passau. You cycle through the Schlögener Donauschlinge and the Wachau World Heritage Site on the Danube cycle path, which is flat throughout. The Danube metropolises of Vienna, Bratislava and Budapest also await you. Charming towns like Melk and Engelhartszell are on your way, as are impressive castles, venerable monasteries and cosy wine taverns. As the ship often sails in the evening or at night, you have enough time for the activities during the day and can enjoy a stress-free holiday. A bike and ship tour between Passau and Budapest offers the perfect combination of relaxation and sporting activity.
You can book the trip on the ships MS Fortuna and MS Carissima. The MS Fortuna departs from Passau on Sundays, the MS Carissima on Saturdays.

Your cruisers
An elegant atmosphere and comfortably furnished cabins await you on board the MS Fortuna. From the panorama salon or the large sun deck you can relax and enjoy the view of the Danube between Passau and Budapest.
As soon as you step on board the MS Carissima, you will feel the family atmosphere. The cabins are freshly renovated, spacious and comfortable. Enjoy the passing landscape during the day from the sun deck and cool off in the pool. After an eventful bike tour you can relax in the whirlpool or sauna. There is always a refreshing drink in the panorama lounge and at the bar and regional delicacies in the cosy restaurant. Every day, the tour guide on board will inform you about the upcoming bike tour.
Show more Show lessDay 1: Individual arrival in Passau, Passau – Engelhartszell (boat)
After your arrival, take a stroll through the narrow streets of Passau's old town or visit the world's largest cathedral organ in St. Stephen's Cathedral. Your ship is ready and waiting in the harbour of the Three Rivers City and the crew will welcome you with a cocktail from 4.30 pm. After checking into your cabins, dinner will be served on board. On the ship you cover the short distance to Engelhartszell.
Day 2: Engelhartszell - Aschach, approx. 40 km, Aschach - Devin (boat)
Today we have our first bike tour. You cycle leisurely from Engelhartszell through the wildly romantic Schlögener Schlinge. Here the Danube winds around a huge granite hill on which the romantic Haichenbach ruins sit enthroned. You continue along the river to the market town of Aschach. Here you get back on board to head towards Devin.
Day 3: Devin - Bratislava, approx. 45 km, Bratislava - Budapest (boat)
From Devin, you first take an excursion to the imposing Hof Castle. The narrow cycle path leads along the former Iron Curtain. The castle has a magnificent terraced garden, one of the most beautiful baroque gardens in Europe. You cycle through unspoilt nature and are soon in the vibrant metropolis of Bratislava. If you wish, you can take part in a city tour. This will take you, among other things, to Castle Hill, from where you have a fantastic view of the city. Of course, a tour of the historic city centre is not to be missed. On board your ship you will continue to Budapest.
Day 4: Rest day or excursion to Szentendre, approx. 55 km, Budapest - Danube Bend (boat)
Even entering the operetta city of Budapest is an experience, as many sights can be seen from on board. Take your time to explore the Hungarian capital. A nice alternative is a bike trip to the enchanting artists' town of Szentendre. In the evening, we recommend a city tour by bus through the illuminated Budapest. A special highlight is also the folklore show you can watch. Immerse yourself in Hungarian traditions with music, dances and regional delicacies.
Day 5: Danube Bend - Esztergom, approx. 45 km, Esztergom - Vienna (boat)
Today you cycle through picturesque and gently rolling landscapes that are typical of the Hungarian Wachau. Experience real Hungarian joie de vivre and Puszta romance on this bike tour. Esztergom is one of the oldest cities and former capital of Hungary. It is also home to the country's largest classical basilica, perched high on the castle hill.
Day 6: Rest day Vienna, Vienna - Wachau (boat)
In Vienna you have the option of taking part in a city tour by bike or bus (duration approx. 3 hours, not included). As the ship stays in place all day, you have time for extensive exploration. The Hofburg was the centre of the vast empire of the Habsburg emperors until the beginning of the 20th century. You should definitely not miss a visit! Climb aboard the Ferris wheel in the Vienna Prater and view the city from a height of almost 65 metres. For refreshment, enjoy a delicious Sachertorte cake in one of the numerous coffee houses. Did you know that even after 200 years, only female staff sell and serve at the famous Demel court confectioner?
Day 7: Wachau / Krems - Melk, approx. 40 km, Melk - Passau (boat)
Today the special landscape of the Wachau awaits you. Cycle through the rolling hills and dreamy villages. The old wine road leads past countless historic buildings and castles, but also charming wine taverns. Treat yourself to a break and taste the delicious wine. At the stage destination, Baroque Melk Abbey awaits you, one of the most important baroque buildings in Austria. In the evening we invite you to a gala dinner on the ship, framed by a small show programme.
Day 8: Individual departure or extension of stay
Once again you can enjoy the morning silence of the Danube valley before you reach Passau at around 10.00 a.m. and then disembark. In the last few days, you will have experienced many impressions on your journey by bike and boat from Passau to Budapest that you will remember for a long time. If you would like to extend your stay in Passau, we will be happy to book additional nights in a 4* hotel for you.
