Experience the two enchanting landscapes of Provence and Camargue on a trip by bike and boat. On leisurely day trips you discover the highlights of the regions by bike. Your floating hotel, the MS Caprice or the MS L'Estello, will accompany you on the Rhône and its side canals. Follow the scent of the lavender fields glowing purple through the unique landscape of Provence. The special light and the intense colors already attracted painters like Van Gogh and Cézanne to this area. You cycle on quiet paths through pretty villages surrounded by vineyards and orchards. The Camargue offers a completely different picture: huge alluvial plains in mirror-like terrain, wide sandy beaches and salt flats. Here the famous white wild horses and the black bulls feel at home. Numerous bird species have settled at the many lakes. You may even see a pink flamingo stalking through the marshy ground. Also discover the historic cities of Avignon and Arles on your bike and boat trip in Provence and Camargue.
The starting point alternates between Avignon and Aigues-Mortes.
From 5 p.m. the crew of your trip by bike and boat in Provence and Camargue awaits you for embarkation. Your ship is at the Quai de la Ligne. From there you will see the remains of the former 900 m long Pont d'Avignon bridge. Due to flooding of the Rhône only four of the former 22 arches are still preserved today. Perfect for a first souvenir photo.
After your first night on the hotel ship, you'll swing onto the saddle for the first time and discover the area around Avignon. You will cross the Île de la Barthelasse, one of the largest river islands in Europe. Between vineyards and orchards you cycle to Villeneuve-Lés-Avignon. During a guided tour you will learn more about the former city of the popes. Your ship awaits you in the evening back in the port of Avignon.
Start the day with a hearty breakfast as your ship takes you to Aramon in the morning. Strengthened and rested, you will cycle to the Pont du Gard. Take your time to visit this architectural masterpiece. Did you know that this imposing bridge contains one of the best preserved water channels from Roman times? In Aramon you will spend the night with a wonderful view of Mont Ventoux.
Castles and fortresses are on the agenda today. First, your boat will take you to Vallabrègues. Discover the beautiful village right on the banks of the Rhône before cycling to Barbentane. Located between the rivers Rhône and Durance, you will find the beautiful castle. Cycle to the next highlight of your trip by bike and boat in Provence and Camargue, the Abbey of Saint Michel de Frigolet, visible from afar, perched on a hill. Before you arrive back in Vallabrègues, make a detour in the medieval Boulbon.
First along the Rhône, then through the beautiful Provençal countryside with limestone cliffs and olive trees you cycle to Saint-Rémy-de-Provence – known as the birthplace of Nostradamus. One of the most beautiful villages in France, Les-Baux-de-Provence is certainly worth a detour. The village is dominated by the large castle ruins. After that, it's not far by bike to Arles, where your ship is waiting for you on the banks of the Rhône.
The day starts with a guided tour of Arles. Be inspired by the numerous Roman and Romanesque buildings, which also inspired Picasso and Van Gogh. After lunch you will reach Franquevaux. A short boat ride will take you to Aigues-Mortes in Camargue, where you will spend the night on board.
Discover the quaint town of Aigues-Mortes with its fully preserved city walls and beautiful squares lined with restaurants and cafes. Not far away is the historic fishing village of Le-Grau-du-Roi. Over the years, this idyllic village has become a vacation resort. Here you will find a 10 km long, fine sandy beach. A swim in the sea is certainly a fitting end to your trip by bike and boat in Provence and Camargue.
This video takes you on board our comfortable ships and shows how relaxing and varied a combined cycling and boat tour can be. Ride past blooming lavender fields, through charming villages and alongside impressive cultural landmarks like the Pont du Gard.
In between, enjoy life on board: soak up the sun on deck, savor delicious regional cuisine, and feel the unique atmosphere as the ship gently glides along the canals. Whether it’s the wild beauty of the Camargue or cultural treasures in Arles – this journey delights with variety, comfort and southern flair.
