Welcome to Girona! After your arrival in this charming city drive straight to your hotel and check in. Once you have settled, you will have plenty of time to discover Girona. The city is steeped in history and culture. Visit its beautifully preserved Jewish quarter it is among the most well kept in the world. Then visit the impressive cathedral and a walk along the old medieval city walls to enjoy the magnificent view of the surrounding area which you will soon get to know on your scenic bike through Catalonia.
From Girona, the sporty cycle tour in Catalonia leads along the green El Carrilet cycle path. It runs quietly through the charming towns of Quart, Cassà de la Selva, Llagostera and Santa Cristina d'Aro. Just outside Girona you'll find the famous colorful houses on the banks of the Onyar, it is a favourite photo motif.
You will continue through the gentle hills of the Gavarres massif. They are covered with oak forests which are still being used for cork production. In Llagostera, the ascent to the Col de Sant Grau begins, rewarding you with an exciting downhill experience and sweeping views of the Mediterranean.
Finally, the route leads along the impressive coast, including a spectacular section 100 meters above sea level. Your destination is Sant Feliu de Guíxols. Here a hotel near the quiet Sant Pol beach promises a relaxing evening.
Today's cycle tour in Catalonia takes you along its beautiful coastline. At first you will pass the lively fishing port of Palamós before discovering the unspoiled Platja de Castell with its clear water and pine forest - perfect for a short break. Follow the via the former railroad line "Ruta del Tren Petit" and take a break with a view in the charming coastal village of Calella de Palafrugell. Onwards to the picturesque town of Palafrugell, known for its market and cork museum. Then continue to cycle through the rice fields and wetlands of the Costa Brava to Pals. The crowning glory of the region is today's destination Torroella de Montgrí. Enjoy its imposing castle located at the foot of the Montgrí massif.
The tour continues on to the fascinating Alt Empordà region. The wide bay of Roses with its long sandy beaches stretches out before you. A particular highlight is the ancient site of Empúries near Sant Martí d'Empúries. Here well-preserved Greek and Roman ruins provide an insight into the ancient history of the Iberian Peninsula. Continue to cycle through the protected wetlands of the Aiguamolls de l'Empordà. It is the home to a wide variety of bird species. The tour ends in Castelló d'Empúries with its magnificent Gothic church, the count's palace, the old market hall and the historic Jewish quarter.

Here the second ascent of the day to the Romanesque monastery of Sant Pere de Rodes awaits. The crowning glory is the long descent back to the hotel, a relaxing finish to today's physical challenge. Just roll down the hills through breathtaking landscapes and ancient cultural monuments.
The stage takes you to Peralada, the heart of the Empordà wine region. The charming little town invites you to discover the local culture - be it on a visit to the famous wineries, the imposing Peralada Castle or on a walk through the well-preserved medieval alleyways. Continue cycling through the upper vineyards past Garriguella, Vilamaniscle and Rabós. It is home to some of the oldest wineries in the region. A worthwhile stop is the modernist cooperative winery in Espolla. Here you'll gain an insight into the traditional wine production. The crowning glory is Figueres with the famous Dalí Theater-Museum, a masterpiece of surreal architecture and one of Spain's most visited museums.
Today's stage of your sporty bike tour in Catalonia is rich in diversity. You will cycle through open plains up to the hills of the Gavarres massif. Leave Figueres behind to cycle through quiet villages. You will pass Vilamalla, Siurana and Camallera before the terrain gradually becomes more mountainous. The ascent leads up to the pilgrimage site of Els Àngels. Here you will be rewarded with a breathtaking panoramic view over the Girona region. The long descent back into the Sant Daniel valley leads you gently back to Girona. Here a leisurely dinner rounds off this unforgettable trip through Catalonia perfectly.
