Imagine this: You cycle past thatched fishermen's houses, hear seagulls screeching and smell the salty sea air - while the sailing ship slowly sets course for the next port on the horizon. Welcome to your cycle tour "Bike and Sail from Copenhagen" through the charming north of Europe!
This special combination of cycling vacation and sailing trip takes you from the Danish design metropolis of Copenhagen along quiet country lanes and coastal paths to the lively south of Sweden. Denmark awaits you with hygge villages, bright red poppy fields, wide beaches and royal castles. On the Swedish side, you can expect forests, wide open spaces, fika breaks with cinnamon buns and coffee - and of course the typical red wooden houses against a lush green backdrop. In between, you will sail relaxed across the Öresund, experience picture-book cliffs and be enchanted by the light of the north. The route takes you to the world-famous Louisiana Museum, the citadel of Landskrona and the university town of Lund with its thousand years of history.
And in the evening? You can sit on deck, watch the sun set over the water and reflect on your impressions with a cool drink. This trip is perfect for anyone who loves the outdoors - and wants to discover Scandinavia by bike and the wind.
Welcome to Denmark! Your "Bike and Sail from Copenhagen" trip begins in Copenhagen, the country's capital, directly on the Öresund. Embarkation on the tall ship Atlantis takes place from 5.30 pm. If you arrive earlier, you have the option of bringing your luggage on board from 3.00 pm. Use the time until check-in to get to know Copenhagen better. Take a stroll to Amalienborg Palace or pay a visit to the Little Mermaid. In the evening, there will be a ship briefing and dinner on board.
After breakfast, you will start your first cycle tour along the Danish Riviera. You will pass Copenhagen's landmarks such as the Little Mermaid and the star-shaped Kastellet before escaping the hustle and bustle of the city. On quiet paths, you follow the course of the Öresund, past fishing villages and light-flooded forests. About ten kilometers before Helsingør, the famous Louisiana Museum of Modern Art in Humlebæk invites you to make a worthwhile stopover. At your destination for the day, Helsingør awaits you with its lively old town and the imposing Kronborg Castle - world-famous as Hamlet's castle. The lovingly restored harbour buildings are home to a street food market and the modern maritime museum.
Today's stage first takes you along the coast to the pretty harbour of Hornbæk. You then cycle through the green hinterland to Esrum - a detour to the monastery on the lake of the same name is recommended. Cycle back to the old town of Helsingør along small country lanes with views of manor houses and castles. If you prefer a more leisurely pace, choose a shorter route and discover more of the town before the crossing to Sweden begins in the evening - perfect for a short walk after dinner.
The day begins with a relaxed coastal tour through Skåne - another highlight of your "Bike and Sail from Copenhagen" trip. Idyllic beaches and the fishing village of Borstahusen line your route to the fortified town of Landskrona with its well-preserved 16th century citadel. At lunchtime, take the ferry to the small island of Ven - a hidden gem in the Öresund. On a leisurely tour, you will discover artists' studios, cafés, a whiskey distillery and the Tycho Brahe Observatory. In the late afternoon, the dinghy takes you back to the ship, which is anchored off the coast.
Today you leave the wheels behind and experience a real seafaring feeling: the tall ship sets course for South Jælland and heads for Køge or Rødvig, depending on the wind. A panorama of sky, sea and chalk cliffs opens up beneath the imposing Öresund Bridge. If the weather cooperates, you can enjoy one of these rare sailing days, made for dreaming and unwinding. In this sparsely populated region, a particularly clear starry sky can be observed at night - just as it once was for orientation at sea.
The white cliffs of Stevns Klint mark another highlight of your "Bike and Sail from Copenhagen" trip. From the starting point of Rødvig or directly from Køge, you will discover the UNESCO World Heritage Site with its dramatic views. The route takes you to the famous cliff church of Højerup with its fantastic view over the sea and on to medieval Køge with its charming town center. If your tour starts in Køge, the route takes you a little further, but the views of the cliffs are worth every kilometer. In the evening you board the ship again: the ship takes you relaxed across the Öresund to Malmö.
Malmö forms the finale of your cycle tour: On the shorter tour, you will get to know the modern side of the city - from the Turning Torso to the views of the Öresund Bridge. If you still have energy left, set off for Lund. The university town boasts a historic atmosphere, student flair and winding alleyways. Return along the coast - perhaps with a dip in the water or an ice cream on the promenade. In the evening, a festive farewell dinner awaits you on board - with a view of the sea and lots of travel memories in your luggage.
After breakfast, your "Bike and Sail from Copenhagen" trip ends - with a suitcase full of impressions and a sea breeze in your head. Perhaps there is still time for a last coffee or a stroll along the harbor in Malmö before you say goodbye to Scandinavia.
