Travel report: Bike Tour through the Baltic Sea Hinterland

On 20.9.2020 we finally arrive in Lübeck after 11 hours of driving. The Hotel 4-Jahreszeiten is great, the reception was very warm. We have a great room on the 5th floor - with a view over the city.
Day 1 of our bike tour leads us in bright sunshine to Travemünde and there with the ferry across the Trave in the direction of Boltenhagen. Bike break - with a view to the 4-Master Passat, we continue along the Baltic Sea and again and again we linger, because the views to the Baltic Sea are just too beautiful. But then the first shock, about 18 km before Boltenhagen my rear tire is flat. But we get help from a nice couple from Hesse and so we arrive safely at the hotel Gutshaus Redewisch. What a beautiful house with very, very tasty cuisine and very nice all around.
Day 2 takes us to Wismar, but first a new bicycle tube is bought and mounted in Boltenhagen. Next time we will definitely take a replacement. In Boltenhagen, a visit to the pier is mandatory and we take breaks to enjoy the Baltic Sea, because the weather is just outrageously good. We are also quite enthusiastic about Wismar, a beautiful old city and there is so much to see. Our hotel Vienna House is in the center and so we can explore the surrounding area on foot. In the evening we sit at the harbor with a delicious meal at the Italian restaurant.
Day 3 Before we drive to Schwerin we get 2 bottles of mineral water on the tour from the hotel Vienna House, a nice gesture that makes us very happy. Then a mistake happens to me, I miss the given route and we come via Bad Kleinen and Wiligrad Castle to Lübstorf, an adventurous tour that also leads us over lonely forest paths, but we arrive at the destination, the Pfaffenweiher in Schwerin with the Hotel Niederländischer Hof and we are thrilled. Wow, again a great address and we start to talk with a very nice hotel employee, who then conjures us in the evening not only at the bar a delicious Aperol, no she gave us even an insider tip to a restaurant where we could then also enjoy a fine meal.
Day 4 belongs to Schwerin. In general, Schwerin is the highlight of the trip for us. What a fantastic and beautiful city. We could not get out of looking and marveling. The offered boat trip over the Schwerin lakes were also an experience because of the sunny weather. So we decided for a city tour with the tourist bus, which was also very informative. So many impressions, with the beautiful castle and the many very beautifully restored old houses, we were certainly not the last time in this beautiful city. Thent at the pier a coffee and in the evening a dinner in the rustic brewery. A successful conclusion.

Day 5 Farewell to Schwerin and continue to Ratzeburg. Today the weather is much cooler and we also notice that we are physically not so good. But the longer we pedal, the better it works, then it is also sunny and in Gadebusch we take a break. The landscape is also very varied and we come to the historical part. You can see the old border course on display boards and you can read what happened to the people and their homes at that time. Moments to pause and also to be grateful. So we arrive via Schlagbrügge and Bäk to Ratzeburg in Wittler`s Hotel. Since we are quite exhausted, we also eat in the house and do not see much more of Ratzeburg.
Day 6 and we have reached the last day of our tour. So back to Lübeck. It goes off over the Lübecker Damm to Einhaus and also the weather is sad and gray. First it goes over varied landscapes, we have a bit of everything, waters, forests and then also open terrain, we hear the gray geese even before we see them standing in the fields. The autumn announces itself. We cycle via Klempan to Krummesse on the shore path of the Elbe-Lübeck Canal back to the city of Lübeck. Shortly before we reach our destination, the Hotel 4 Jahreszeiten, my Partner calls: "I have a flat tire! There we both had to laugh, this is how it happened to both of us once. Hardly arrived, the last meters, pushing, it began to rain. But we had successfully completed our tour and then ran with large umbrella still in the evening in the harbor to fish dinner in a fine, small restaurant.
Farewell to Lübeck the next morning, even the sky is sad and gray. What a wonderful bike tour we have behind us, have seen a lot, experienced very friendly and helpful people and are proud of our performance, because we are both 65 years old and have managed the tour without "e-bike" with pure muscle power.
Our conclusion: it is our 3rd bike tour via Radweg-Reisen and each one was nice, the hotels were top everywhere and we enjoyed it very much.
We will experience again new adventures with Radweg-Reisen, perhaps with ship and bike next time. Time will tell...With warm regards Gabi and Thomas
