The 190 km between Mainz and Cologne is the classic section of the Rhine cycle path in Germany, which actually covers a total of 1230 km and takes you to the North Sea coast. Just why this section is so popular is easy to answer: the cathedrals in Mainz and Cologne, castles, monasteries, the countryside… while between these two cities, the Rhine flows through wonderful scenery. Places steeped in legend line the route: the Lorelei, the treasure of the Nibelung or the Katz and Maus castles. Intimate wine cellars, tasty local dishes and the friendly people here will all ensure that you enjoy yourself. All these cyclists have been quite right to be so enthusiastic about this section of the Rhine cycle path in Germany for so long!

The Rhine Cycle Path in Germany

Day 1: Individual arrival in Mainz

For those who have enough time, the city of Mainz with its 2000 year history is definitely worth seeing! The Mogontiacum, the Roman Mainz was of great importance in ancient times. Discover contemporaries made of stone from different historical periods. Booked rental bikes will be available at the hotel.

Day 2: Mainz - Rüdesheim, approx. 35 km

The first stretch of the journey on the Rhine cycle path leisurely takes you through a wonderful landscape. A short detour to the wine, sparkling wine and rose town of Eltville and the abbey Ebersbach is worthwhile. The town awaits you with its colourful framework houses and romantic rose gardens. The abbey Eberbach is one of the most important cultural monuments in Germany.

Day 3: Rüdesheim - St. Goar, approx. 35 km

Steeped in legend, romantic, uniquely beautiful - these are how fascinated visitors described our next destination. A slate rock which soars nearly vertically into the sky, 132 m above the Rhine - this is the lexicon description. You may have realised this is an absolute highlight of our tour: the Loreley. The Rhine daughter has pulled boatmen into its spell for eternity.

Katz Castle in St. Goarshausen

Day 4: St. Goar - Koblenz, approx. 35 km

Powerful castles line the way even today. Marksburg Castle and Stolzenfels Castle above Koblenz are particularly worth seeing. Explore the history of the city, which is over 2000 years old. Its rich cultural heritage in incredibly beautiful surroundings is inspiring. The famous German Corner got its name from the settlement of the Teutonic Order at the confluence of the Rhine and Moselle.

Day 5: Koblenz - Bad Godesberg, approx. 60 km

Once again our journey takes us through romantic vineyards and inviting little villages up to Bad Godesberg. This suburb of Bonn was the diplomats residence up until the German capital was moved to Berlin. It seems obvious to shorten the long stretch with an interesting boat journey on the Rhine. This leaves more time to let the evening come to a cosy end in one of the welcoming wine villages.

Day 6: Bad Godesberg - Cologne, approx. 45 km

Quickly you reach Bonn, which you should definitely visit. Then you reach the last highlight of the tour. Cologne entices visitors with the famous Cathedral, one of the most visited sights in Germany. Rhine Park, botanical garden, chocolate museum – the list of attractions worth seeing is long. And in the evening you can have a fresh Koelsch in the city centre.
