Are you planning an unforgettable cycle tour from Kiel to Gothenburg? You start in the maritime fjord city of Kiel, the northernmost state capital of Germany. Your journey full of nature, coastal flair and Scandinavian impressions begins directly on the Baltic Sea. The route takes you along the Baltic Sea Coast Cycle Route via Heiligenhafen to the sunny island of Fehmarn. You reach the Danish island of Lolland by ferry, followed by quiet, varied stages via Falster and Møn - a delight for nature lovers. Another highlight of the cycle tour from Kiel to Gothenburg is the ride across Zealand, Denmark's largest island, with its charming villages and the impressive chalk cliffs of Stevns Klint. In Denmark's capital Copenhagen, cycling culture meets joie de vivre and modern design. The route continues to Helsingør, from where a ferry takes you to Helsingborg in Sweden. This is where the last section of your cycle tour from Kiel to Gothenburg begins. On the Kattegattleden - Sweden's first national long-distance cycle path - you will experience magnificent views, beaches and open landscapes along the Kattegatt coast before your tour comes to a close in Gothenburg after two weeks - an experience full of nature, culture and freedom on two wheels.

Day 1: Individual arrival in Kiel

You start your cycle tour from Kiel to Gothenburg in the lively state capital of Schleswig-Holstein. Immediately after checking into your hotel, it's worth grabbing your bike and actively discovering Kiel. Enjoy the view of Kiel's bustling harbor from the Hörnbrücke bridge, the city's landmark, or take a leisurely cycle along the Kiellinie. If you want to soak up some sun and sea air before the start of the long tour, take a detour to the popular Falckensteiner Strand beach - the perfect way to relax and get in the mood for the upcoming stages.

Day 2: Kiel – Heiligenhafen, approx. 75 km + ferry ride

After a few kilometers on your bike along the Kiel Fjord, take the ferry (not included) to Laboe. On the Baltic Sea Coast Cycle Path, you always stay close to the sea. The route takes you inland to Oldenburg in Holstein, where the Wall Museum offers an insight into the history of the Slavs in Eastern Holstein. Your stage ends in Heiligenhafen. After a refreshing day of cycling, you can enjoy a relaxing stroll along the pier promenade. Be inspired by the surfers gliding over the waves in the surf.

Day 3: Heiligenhafen – Maribo / Bandholm, approx. 60 / 65 km + ferry ride

The route towards Fehmarn follows flat paths until you reach Germany's third largest island via the Fehmarnsund Bridge. Burg is the lively center of the sun-drenched island. Treat yourself to a coffee break in the town center before making your way to the landing stage in Puttgarden. From there, the ferry will take you to the port of Rødby on the Danish island of Lolland. You reach the cozy little town of Maribo on level paths. A little further north is the harbor town of Bandholm. You will spend the night in Bandholm or Maribo.

Day 4: Maribo – Nykøbing Falster / Marielyst, approx. 60 - 70 km

Today's stage of your cycle tour from Kiel to Gothenburg takes you through the east of Lolland. You reach the harbor town of Nykøbing Falster via the Guldborg Sound. The townscape of the main town on the island of Falster is characterized by colourful little houses, the monastery church and the water tower. The route continues to the Baltic Sea, where you will discover one of Denmark's most beautiful beaches in Marielyst. Your overnight stay is either in Nykøbing Falster or in Marielyst.

Day 5: Nykøbing Falster – Stege, approx. 70 km + ferry ride

Another almost flat stage lies ahead of you. At first, you will be cycling close to the coast. Enjoy wonderful views of the sea and take the opportunity to take breaks on the beach - it's simply wonderful! A stop in Hesnæs is also worthwhile: the walls and roofs of the houses in the fishing village are wrapped in thatch - unique in Denmark. From Stubbekøbing, take the ferry (not included) to the island of Bogø and continue by bike to the island of Møn, famous for its chalk cliffs. Your overnight stay is in Stege, one of the oldest trading towns in the country.

Day 6: Stege - Rødvig, approx. 70 km

From Stege, you continue your cycle tour and reach the island of Zealand. First you cross the Dronning Alexandrines Bro and arrive on the largest island in the Baltic Sea. You continue northwards on cycle paths with gentle gradients. Cycle past the charming little town of Præstø to Faxe Ladeplads, where the fine sandy beach invites you to swim and sunbathe. Your destination, Rødvig, is not far away. One of the town's landmarks is the historic flint kiln, which stands not far from the harbor.

Day 7: Rødvig – Copenhagen, approx. 80 km or 35 km + train ride

Today you will drive along the impressive Stevns Klint cliff, which has been declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site. In Højerup, the 13th century church stands right on the cliff edge - a fascinating photo motif. Along Køge Bugt, there are numerous places to take a break, swim in the sea and enjoy the view. Once you arrive in Copenhagen, a well-developed network of cycle paths awaits you, taking you to sights such as Nyhavn, Amalienborg Palace and Rundetårn. If you prefer a more leisurely approach, you can also cover the route from Køge by train (not included).

Day 8: Copenhagen – Helsingborg, approx. 55 km + ferry ride

After you have left the lively city life of Copenhagen behind you, your route takes you further north. With a view of the Öresund, you cycle through small harbor villages, past fields and meadows. Along the way, beaches and rest areas invite you to take a swim or enjoy a leisurely picnic - museums along the route also offer interesting insights. At the north-eastern tip of Zealand, Helsingør awaits you with the imposing Kronborg Castle, famous as the setting for Shakespeare's Hamlet. From here, take the ferry to Helsingborg in Sweden.

Day 9: Helsingborg – Ängelholm, approx. 60 km

Your cycling day today starts at Knutpunkten, the central traffic junction near Helsingborg harbour - this is where the Kattegattleden begins. Sofiero Castle is worth a stop just a few kilometers to the north. The magnificent park is a particular highlight in May and June, when thousands of rhododendrons are in full bloom. The route continues past idyllic fishing villages and small marinas along the rocky coast of the Kulla peninsula. In Höganäs, known for its ceramic tradition and earthenware art, it is worth taking a stroll through the galleries and workshops. Back on your bike, you will reach your stage destination Ängelholm after a few kilometers.

Day 10: Ängelholm – Halmstad, approx. 75 / 95 km

From Ängelholm, you are also on the Kattegattleden today. You cycle past picturesque harbors, beaches and fields. At Ängelbäckstrand, you first say goodbye to the coast. A few steep sections await you, which are rewarded with wonderful sea views. The route then continues quickly to Båstad. Between Båstad and Halmstad lies one of Sweden's longest sandy beaches - don't forget your swimsuit! In Halmstad, a lively market square, the impressive head of a woman by Pablo Picasso and Europe with the Bull, which adorns the Milles Fountain, await you.

Day 11: Halmstad – Falkenberg, approx. 60 km

Today's cycle tour from Kiel to Gothenburg first takes you to the popular seaside resort of Tylösand. A true beach paradise awaits you here, one of the most famous in Sweden. Treat yourself to a refreshing dip in the Kattegatt, relax with a sunbath or enjoy the atmosphere on the beach. Continue along the coast in a northerly direction. A worthwhile stopover is the Haverdal nature reserve, where you will find the highest sand dune in Sweden at 37 meters - right by the sea. A picturesque town center and one of Sweden's oldest and most beautiful stone bridges await you in the harbour town of Falkenberg.

Day 12: Falkenberg – Varberg, approx. 40 km

From Falkenberg, you continue cycling along picturesque beaches and bays that invite you to take a break. In Träslövsläge, you should definitely visit the harbour and try some fresh fish specialties from the region. Only a few kilometers away is your stage destination Varberg, whose landmark is the imposing Varberg Slott. The fortress is enthroned on a rock directly in the sea and houses a historical museum. The main attraction is the Bockstensmann - an exceptionally well-preserved bog body from the Middle Ages. As you walk along the harbor, you will come across the Kallbadhuset, a traditional cold bathhouse that is still in operation today.

Day 13: Varberg – Kungsbacka, approx. 60 - 70 km

After Varberg, the landscape changes significantly: the long sandy beaches give way to rocky sections and the coast looks increasingly rugged and pristine. From Åsa, you leave the coastline and cycle inland. A worthwhile detour takes you to the imposing Tjolöholms Slott - an English Tudor-style castle, picturesquely situated on the coast. Nearby, the Fjärås Bräcka nature reserve invites you to visit the historic Li burial ground, which is reminiscent of the Iron Age with over 100 building stones. Your destination for today is the charming little town of Kungsbacka.

Day 14: Kungsbacka – Gothenburg, approx. 40 - 65 km

Today your cycle tour takes you back to the sea. The route runs through dense forests, past quiet bays and inviting bathing spots until you reach Gothenburg. Sweden's second largest city impresses with the largest export port in Northern Europe and a lively city center. Take a boat trip through the canals, visit the market hall Stora Saluhallen or watch moose in Slottsskogen Park. From Ramberget, the city's local mountain, you can enjoy an impressive panoramic view from a height of 87 meters.
