On this star tour in Sweden, you will go on a variety of cycle tours around Stockholm. The Archipelago are one of the scenic highlights. Around 24,000 islands are part of them – some green and inhabited, others rocky, bare and empty of people. I think you get the idea: On this tour, you‘ll be seeing very typical sights of Sweden: cycling through beautiful green countryside, passing many lakes all the way to the Baltic Coast. And all this is not far from the gates of Stockholm. You stay overnight in the capital and get to know this lovely city with its fantastic 700 years of history. The town is built on 14 islands and surrounded by water. In one of the 26 town parks you can quickly get away from the hustle and bustle of the city centre.

Cycle Tours around Stockholm

Day 1: Individual arrival in Stockholm

After your arrival in Stockholm, take a first tour of the city. The town hall with its striking corner tower is an example of Swedish national romanticism. In its Blue Hall, the grand banquet for the Nobel Prize winners takes place every year. Stroll through the narrow streets of the old town, Gamla Stan, located on the island of Stadsholmen. It is one of the largest and best-preserved medieval old towns in Europe. In the evening, you will receive personal tour information and, if you have booked rental bikes, they will be handed over to you

Day 2: Excursion to Drottningholm Palace, approx. 50 km

First you cycle along Lake Mälaren, the third largest lake in Sweden, to the island of Lovön. This is where you will find the Royal Palace of Drottningholm, also known as the Swedish Versailles. It is the private residence of the royal family – the palace in Stockholm is now only the official residence. With this royal start to the day, why not visit Stockholm Palace in the afternoon? With 600 rooms, it is one of the largest palaces in Europe. It houses various museums, the treasury and armory and a daily changing of the guard takes place in front of the palace.

Day 3: Excursion to the archipelago, approx. 35 km + ferry ride

Of course, a trip to the archipelago is a must when cycling around Stockholm! An archipelago consists of mostly flat, rocky islets that were formed during the ice ages and have been worn away by the ice. There are often groups of several hundred islands, which are like a courtyard in front of the land. Cycle to Vaxholm, a small town and yet the capital of the archipelago. There is a 16th century fortress to visit, but the real highlight is of course the landscape! You will see small islands, lots of water and the typical falun red houses. You can easily get back to Stockholm by boat (not included).

Day 4: Excursion to Saltsjöbaden, approx. 55 km

Today you cycle all the way to the Baltic Sea coast. The day's destination is the seaside resort of Saltsjöbaden, which literally means salt sea bath. Nature is also the main focus today, as the route takes you through a large nature reserve with numerous lakes. Did you know that there are almost 100,000 lakes in Sweden? That's 245 times more than IKEA stores worldwide! Back in Stockholm, you should definitely plan a visit to one of the city's museums. The Astrid Lindgren Museum and the ABBA Museum are located right next to the Vasa Museum. Both museums tell the story of some of Sweden's most famous personalities.

Day 5: Excursion to Djurgården peninsula, approx. 45 km

One of Stockholm's most visited attractions awaits you on the Djurgården peninsula: Gröna Lund, Sweden's oldest amusement park. Opened in 1883, another park was opened nearby in 1924 and the competition for visitors grew ever greater. So while the families running the park lived in eternal competition with each other, their children fell in love. They kept their love a secret and only married after the death of their parents. The two parks were united and Gröna Lund is now one of Sweden's largest amusement parks. You walk around the island, which is part of the gigantic Ekoparken. The ecopark is Stockholm's green lung and the world's first national city park with an area of 27 km² – right in the middle of the capital!
