Welcome to Portugal! After your arrival in Porto, your family holiday by bike in Portugal begins with a transfer to your hotel. Use the day to explore the charming city. Stroll through the old town, marvel at the colorful facades and enjoy the special flair of the city on the Douro. The historic old town and the famous port wine cellars on the other side of the river in Vila Nova de Gaia are particularly worth seeing. Optionally, you can take part in a wine tasting (not included).
In the afternoon, at 3 p.m., a transfer will take you to Monção in the north of Portugal. Here you can relax in your cozy country hotel - be it on a leisurely stroll through the hotel garden or relaxing by the pool. The more adventurous can visit a nearby nature park with numerous outdoor activities (optional extra).
The surrounding area of Monção impresses with its rich history and picturesque landscape. Spend the day as you wish – explore the historic old town with its charming streets or stroll through the green parks that invite you to linger. If you fancy a bit of action, you can take a rafting tour on the River Minho (not included in the price). Alternatively, it is worth visiting a traditional winery where you can taste the famous Vinho Verde. Your cycling adventure begins today! You follow the River Minho on a former railroad line that now serves as a cycle path. The route takes you through rural villages, past vineyards and cornfields. History buffs can look forward to the impressive fortresses in Valença and Vila Nova de Cerveira, which date back to the time of the Portuguese-Spanish conflict. Once you arrive in Vila Nova de Cerveira, the charming town center invites you to take a leisurely stroll or a coffee break in the main square.
Today's program includes an excursion to Valença, a city with an important history and impressive fortifications. The imposing walls provided protection from attacks in the past and still characterize the cityscape today. Let yourself drift through the narrow streets and enjoy the panoramic view of the Minho River. If you want to make the day even more active, you can take an optional canoe trip on the river or an off-road vehicle tour in the Peneda-Gerês National Park. The day starts with a boat trip along the Minho estuary, where you can observe the rich variety of wildlife. After arriving in Caminha, you get back on your bike and cycle south along the Atlantic coast. The view of the sea accompanies you on the way to Viana do Castelo, a picturesque town with a rich history. On the way, you will pass beautiful sandy beaches, the historic Montedor lighthouse and small fishing villages. Viana do Castelo itself impresses with its beautiful old town and the Basilica of Santa Luzia, which offers a fantastic view over the city and the coast.
Use the last day of your trip to discover the city and its surroundings. Stroll through the historic center, explore the fishing port or relax on one of the beaches. If you still want to be active, you can take a surfing course or travel by train to the medieval town of Barcelos, which is known for its traditional market and colorful ceramics. A pottery workshop offers a great opportunity to create a unique souvenir yourself.
After a final breakfast, it's time to say goodbye. Unfortunately, your family holiday by bike in Portugal ends today. A transfer will take you back to Porto Airport, from where you will start your journey home. We hope you had an unforgettable cycling trip through Portugal!
