Day 1: Individual arrival in Schärding
Welcome to Upper Austria. Discover the picturesque and colourful city at the river Inn. The unique townscape is worth seeing. Marvel at the beautiful town houses originating from the 16th to the 19th century. The late Baroque Silberzelle is especially worth seeing. It is surrounded by a nearly completely preserved town wall. Passau, which is located nearby, offers countless attractions and is also worth a visit. Booked rental bikes will be available at the hotel.
Day 2: Schärding – Aschach / Brandstatt, approx. 80 km + ferry trip
Leisurely you will cycle along the river Inn up to the estuary in Passau, where Inn, Ilz and Danube unite. Along the northern bank of the Danube you will cycle to the Schlögener river bend. Here the Danube takes a 180° turn. Relax while enjoying this impressive natural spectacle from aboard the ship. Shortly after cycling through Niederanna, ambitious cyclists can take a detour to the ruin Haichenbach.
Day 3: Aschach – Ardagger / Grein, approx. 80 km
Cycling along the Danube you will cross the bird paradise Eferdinger Becken on your way to Linz, the capital of Upper Austria and European Capital of Culture 2009. Cycling via Enns, you will reach the romantic Struden- and Nibelungengau. Use the opportunity and take a short break in the Celtic Village Mitterkirchen, before you continue cycling to Grein. Austria´s oldest municipal theatre awaits you here.
Day 4: Ardagger – Krems, approx. 85 km
In the morning you will cycle to the impressive Danube hydroelectric power plant in Persenbeug. The following journey from the pilgrimage church in Maria Taferl to Melk with the world-famous monastery will be considerably more romantic. The gate to the Wachau region with its orchards and vineyards offers an enchanting atmosphere. Cycling via Spitz and Dürstein you will reach the wine town Krems, where you can enjoy a good regional wine.
Day 5: Krems – Vienna, approx. 80 km
You will leave the wine region Wachau again and cycle to the former Roman town Tulln. Here, a completely different landscape awaits you: Instead of the hills of the Wachau, the rambling Tullner Feld (Tullner basin) opens in front of you. Cycling via Klosterneuburg you will reach the Danube metropolis Vienna. Whether you´d like to visit the Schönbrunn Palace or St. Stephen´s Cathedral – Vienna has something to offer for everyone.
Day 6: Individual departure or extension of stay
After breakfast your sporty bike tour at the Danube in Austria ends with your individual departure. You will return to Schärding with the train or with bus transfer (not included), alternatively you can depart back home individually. If you wish we can extend your stay in Vienna.
