Day 1: Individual arrival in Bamberg
Welcome to Bamberg! The city is called Franconian Rome because of its location on seven hills. There is much worth seeing in the city that you can explore during your cycling vacation in Bamberg. Whether it's the cathedral with its four towers that dominates the silhouette of the old town, the Old Town Hall built into the Regnitz River or the Franconian Brewery Museum, which provides information about the brewing tradition in Franconia - you'll have plenty of time to take a close look at everything in the coming days.
Day 2: Excursion through the Hauptsmoorwald (beer cellar tour), approx. 35 km
Today of your vacation in Bamberg is all about beer. You set off in the morning and come across Seehof Castle, a former summer residence and hunting lodge of Bamberg's prince bishops. After an exploratory tour, you follow the cycle path of the brewery and beer cellar tour. You will come across numerous beer cellars, pubs and breweries and get to know the special beer variety and tradition of Upper Franconia. In Wernsdorf, visit the medieval castle of the same name, whose oldest parts date back to the 12th century. The last few kilometres you follow the Main-Danube Canal back to Bamberg.
Day 3: Excursion to Haßfurt, approx. 65 km
You leave Bierfranken behind and today take a detour through the vineyards of Weinfranken. Following the Main cycle path, you will soon reach Trunstadt with its castle of the same name. Via the half-timbered and wine town of Zeil am Main, your route leads to Haßfurt, idyllically situated between the Haßberge and Steigerwald nature parks. The town is rich in architectural monuments such as the knight's chapel of St. Maria designed by Tilmann Riemenschneider, the historic town hall and the two gate towers that border the old town. Take a walk through the winding alleys before heading back to Bamberg.
Day 4: Excursion to Lichtenfels, approx. 45 km + train ride
Start the day with a short train ride (not included) to Lichtenfels. The town is widely known for its wickerwork culture and is called the German Wicker Town. Then get on your bike and cycle back to Bamberg along the Main cycle path. On the way, you will come across two magnificent buildings near Bad Staffelstein. The Banz Monastery is located on a mountain spur, while the baroque pilgrimage church of Vierzehnheiligen is on the opposite side. On we go! In numerous river loops, the Main runs through a magnificent floodplain landscape. You pass picturesque little villages and lakes that are ideal for a short or longer break.
Day 5: Excursion to Weissenstein Castle, approx. 65 km
After breakfast, you set off, freshly invigorated, on your last excursion of your cycling vacation in Bamberg. For the first few kilometres you follow the Regnitz. Passing lush forests and along the Rauhe Ebrach, you will reach Burgebrach. The town is considered the eastern gateway to the Steigerwald and is home to the parish church of St. Vitus, which is well worth seeing. Passing the magnificent Steigerwald Nature Park, you reach Pommersfelden. Here you will find the baroque Weissenstein Castle. Let yourself be fascinated during a guided tour (included) through this gem of Franconian Baroque built in the early 18th century. The last few kilometres you follow the Reiche Ebrach and the Main-Danube Canal back to Bamberg.
