Day 1: Individual Arrival in Treves
Discover 2000 years of history in 2000 steps: From the Roman city gate Porta Nigra and the Roman House of Three Kings to the rococo palace of the Elector ‒ within its walls Trier can show you a lot of German history. Definitely try the Riesling wines here from the Mosel-Ruwer region. Reserved rental bicycles are parked at the hotel ready for you.
Day 2: Excursion to Trittenheim / Bernkastel-Kues, approx. 40 km / 70 km + boat
From Treves you will follow the Moselle down river. The largest steep terrain winegrowing region in the world dominates the landscape along the meanders of the Moselle. You will be able to test the famous Moselle wine in one of the small villages. You can follow along the Moselle Cycle Path for as long as you want – visit nearby Trittenheim and the wine taverns of the Moselle boats located there or you stop at Bernkastel-Kues to view the medieval market place with its timber-framed houses. You can then return to Treves by boat or with the cyclists’ bus service (not included).
Day 3: Excursion along the Saar to Merzig, approx. 60 km + train journey
Today you will cycle from Treves to Konz and further along the Saar to Merzig. Along the way you can gain an insight into the cultural history of the region by visiting the Open Air Museum of Roscheider Hof near Konz and take a walk through the medieval Old Town of Saarburg with its famous castle of the same name. In Mettlach you will be able to gain an insight into the history of the ceramic factory of Villeroy & Boch which has its main office here, before coming to the famous Saar Bend shortly before Merzig. From Merzig you can take the train back to Treves (not included).
Day 4: Excursion along the Sauer to Echternach, approx. 40 km + cyclists’ bus
Today you will once again cycle from Treves upriver along the Moselle. From Wasserbillig on you will continue to follow along the Sauer and pass the small villages of Born and Moersdorf, which are the gateways to Luxembourgish Switzerland. In Echternach the Anglo-Saxon missionary Willibrord founded a monastery in 697, the starting point for the annual Ecternach Spring Procession. You can return to Treves by bicycle which will however double your trip to a length of 80 km, or you can use the cyclists’ bus (not included).
Day 5: Individual journey home
After breakfast your cycling tour from Treves comes to an end.
