Day 1: Individual arrival in Nittel
Your cycling tour around the Moselle begins in Nittel. The largest wine village on the Upper Moselle enjoys a scenic location on a winding river course between high dolomite and limestone cliffs. To get a first impression of the beautiful surroundings, take a walk to the pilgrimage chapel of St. Rochus, which towers high above the village. From there, you can enjoy a wonderful view over the Moselle valley.
Day 2: Nittel – Irrel, approx. 45 km + ferry ride
First you cycle comfortably to Oberbillig. There you cross the Moselle and at the same time the border with Luxembourg on a short ferry ride (not included). From Wasserbillig, you follow the course of the river Sûre. Enjoy the beautiful landscape and the picturesque villages along the German-Luxembourg border. You will get to know Echternach, the oldest town in Luxembourg, along the way. Follow the Prüm for the last few kilometers to your stage destination of Irrel. Don't miss out on a visit to the Irrel waterfalls.
Day 3: Irrel – Schweich, approx. 55 km
Today you will get to know the Southern Eifel. First you are on the Nims Cycle Route, which takes you through the beautiful countryside to Bitburg. The town is known for its traditional brewery. Did you know that Bitburg was already an important transportation point for the Romans 2000 years ago? You can find out more about this at the Kreismuseum Bitburg-Prüm. The route continues south through the tranquil Kyll valley. You reach the Middle Moselle in Schweich. The town's landmark is the ferry tower, which was once connected to a ferry tower on the opposite side of the Moselle by rope.
Day 4: Schweich – Saarburg, approx. 45 km
Your cycling tour around the Moselle takes you upstream to Trier. In Germany's oldest city, you can follow in the footsteps of the Romans, who founded the city over 2000 years ago. Porta Nigra, the city's landmark, as well as many other ancient buildings make history visible and tangible in many places in the city. The tour continues to Konz. Situated at the confluence of the Moselle and Saar rivers, a stopover here is also a good idea. Sample a Riesling from the vineyards around Konz before continuing on to your destination for the day, Saarburg.
Day 5: Saarburg – Perl, approx. 60 km
The first few kilometers of today's stage take you through the Saar valley. With the Saarschleife near Mettlach, you reach one of the Saarland's most famous sights. You probably have the best view from the Cloef viewpoint – it's worth the climb! The route continues to Merzig. Here you bid farewell to the Saar and follow the Steinen an der Grenze, a sculpture road along the border with France, which shows you the way to Perl. In Perl, you reach the only wine-growing community in Saarland.
Day 6: Perl – Nittel, approx. 30 km
The shortest stage of your cycling tour around the Moselle lies ahead of you and first takes you to the border triangle of Germany, Luxembourg and France. Follow the course of the Moselle to Remich, surrounded by vineyards and forests. Enjoy a glass of wine in the center of Luxembourg's viticulture before cycling along the Moselle to your starting point in Nittel.
