Along the way, you can expect historic towns, idyllic villages, and varied landscapes to accompany you on your cycle tour in Yorkshire – from the rolling hills of the Forest of Bowland to the spectacular Yorkshire Dales and the picturesque Yorkshire Wolds. Each stage involves some climbs, which require a good level of fitness. Therefore, the tour is particularly suitable for experienced cyclists and adventure seekers. Recharge your batteries with traditional English dishes, discover local beers in cozy pubs, and enjoy every minute of your unforgettable cycle tour in Yorkshire. Cheers!
Experience the perfect start to your cycle tour through Yorkshire in York, the historic heart of northern England. The medieval city is the ideal starting point for discovering the fascinating landscape and culture of the region on two wheels. York, often referred to as the Eternal City of England, has an eventful history dating back to Roman times. As you stroll through the narrow Snickelways - the winding medieval alleyways - you will feel the unique charm of past centuries. An absolute highlight is the imposing York Minster, the largest medieval church in England.
Let's go! The first stage of your cycle tour through Yorkshire starts with an included transfer to the English west coast to Morecambe. On quiet, mostly traffic-free paths, you cycle along the River Lune via Lancaster towards the impressive Yorkshire Dales. After the bend in the river Crook O'Lune the route becomes more challenging as you cycle through the Forest of Bowland and over the hills of the Dales with spectacular views of the famous Three Peaks. The climb to Swarth Moor marks the highest point of the day before a wonderful descent takes you to charming Settle - a lively market town and the destination of this first stage.
Start the day with a hearty breakfast and explore the picturesque Yorkshire Dales. The region impresses with untouched valleys, vast heathlands and fascinating karst caves. A steep climb at the start will challenge your fitness, but a descent soon makes up for it. From Burnsall, you briefly follow the River Wharfe before the next ascent awaits. The Stump Cross Caverns, an accessible cave system just before the highest point of the stage, are a worthwhile stopover. You will then reach Pateley Bridge, where you will discover the oldest candy store in England - a sweet end to an unforgettable day of cycling.
The longest stage of your cycle tour in Yorkshire is also the most relaxed. However, you have to master a climb right at the start. The Brimham Rocks make up for this with their diverse rock formations, which were formed millions of years ago. The strenuous part of the route is now behind you. A few kilometers away lies Fountains Abbey. Once a sublime Cistercian monastery, today's ruins are in no way inferior. From the small town of Ripon, you cycle comfortably on quiet country roads through the flat Vale of York along the River Ouse. You will spend the night in York again.
A relaxed day of cycling awaits you on your cycle tour through Yorkshire, with only one short, hilly section as you cycle up into the picturesque Yorkshire Wolds. After leaving York behind you, the route first leads to Pocklington. You continue up to Huggate at an altitude of 200 meters before cycling through the rolling hills and hidden valleys of the Wolds. Finally you reach Driffield, a charming little town that is often referred to as the capital of the Wolds. You will spend the night in Driffield or the surrounding area.
On the last day of your cycle tour through Yorkshire, you can expect an almost gradient-free route to the North Sea coast. Halfway along the route, it is worth stopping in the idyllic village of Burton Agnes, where the magnificent Burton Agnes Hall invites you to take a stroll through historic walls and beautiful gardens. The route then continues to the charming seaside resort of Bridlington, where you can enjoy a relaxing stroll along the beach. A worthy conclusion to your cycle tour is a visit to the impressive cliffs of Flamborough Head. Afterwards, an included transfer will take you back to York in comfort.
Your cycle tour in Yorkshire ends after breakfast.
