The Golden City of Prague and Dresden – Florence on the Elbe – mark the end points of this route along the Elbe cycle tour. Between the cities lie the Bohemian downs and the bizarre shapes formed by the Elbe Sandstone Mountains. Czech beer and Saxon wine accompany you as you cycle along the Vltava and Elbe rivers. The state and extent of the Elbe cycle path on the Czech side is not quite the same standard as most German cycle paths. The countryside is also quite hilly, however the daily sections you cycle have been chosen so that people not so used to cycling will enjoy the route.

Day 1: Individual arrival in Prague
Drink in the international flair of the Golden City. Simply wander through the streets and be delighted by the Art Nouveau style of the architecture. The castle in Prague and Wenceslas Square give you a glimpse of styles from older and more modern eras of history. A large number of museums are waiting to be explored. Reserved rental bicycles are parked at the hotel ready for you.
Day 2: Stay in Prague
The city's most well-known symbol is without doubt the Charles Bridge, which leads you into the old town. You can devote your attention to the world famous architectural ensemble, or try exploring Kafka's trails in the city, or enjoy a glass of beer in one of the local taverns in the old town. Don't forget to be close to the City Hall at noon and see Astronomical Clock in action.
Day 3: Prague – Mělník, approx. 55 km
This section follows the Elbe cycle path along the Vltava river, which inspired Smetana to a well-known piece of music. The rural scenes when you leave Prague are in sharp contrast to the cosmopolitan city. The pretty town of Mělník is where the Vltava and Elbe rivers merge. It is also significant in terms of the Bohemian wine-growing trade.
Day 4: Mělník – Litoměřice, approx. 50 km
The route continues, following the gentle curves of the River Elbe. Against the idyllic backdrop of the fortifications to Terezín, we are reminded of the town’s terrible past: in the Jewish part of the town and in the concentration camp tens of thousands of people were killed. In the town of Litoměřice, today’s destination, you can recover from the impressions of Terezín.
Day 5: Litoměřice – Děčín, approx. 50 km
Today you follow the Elbe cycle path into the hilly Bohemian countryside. At Ústí nad Labem the path takes you up an incline to Střekov Castle. Don’t be perturbed by the climb, you will be rewarded at the top with wonderful views over the Elbe valley. Particularly worthy of mention is the English Garden at Velké Březno Castle and the Baroque Gardens at Děčín Castle.
Day 6: Děčín – Pirna, approx. 45 km
Today’s section is a connection between the twinned towns of Děčín and Pirna. Soon after you leave Děčín, the Elbe begins its spectacular drop through the Elbe Sandstone Mountains. Erosion has caused the soft Elbe Sandstone to weather into all kinds of fantastic shapes. The view on the Elbe valley from the Königstein Fortress is truly breathtaking. Enjoy a walk through Pirna's old town with its painted facades.
Day 7: Pirna – Dresden, approx. 25 km
On your way to Dresden you are going to pass Castle Pillnitz, and the old Loschwitz bridge. During the trip you can enjoy the magnificent view of the Elbe valley. Afterwards you have a lot of time to explore Dresden, since the route for today is very short. Next to the historic buildings such as Zwinger, Opera and the rebuilt Church of our Lady the neighbourhood Neustadt is known for Dresden's modern and youth culture.
