Cycling on the Main Cycle Path is pleasure cycling. Sporty and leisurely, younger and older cyclists - everyone feels equally at home here. The bike trip along the Main takes you from the old royal seat of Würzburg to Mainz, where the Rhine and Main meet. The Main meanders through the varied and charming regions of Franconia, Franconian wine country and Spessart. Turn your gaze upwards more often and admire the numerous castles and defiant fortresses. You won't want to leave the big cities of Würzburg and Mainz in a hurry, because there's plenty to do here. Enjoy a glass of wine from the region in a rustic wine tavern and toast to a successful day during your Main cycle tour. In addition to the large cities, you will also get to know numerous small towns. Explore Miltenberg, Marktheidenfeld, Wertheim and Lohr, all of which enchant with their very own charm.

Day 1: Individual arrival in Würzburg
We welcome you warmly to the Main Triangle - in the Residential and University town of Würzburg. Bavaria's sixth biggest town lies surrounded by vineyards and is watched over by Marienberg Fortress, which can be seen from afar. Pay a visit to the town's landmark and enjoy the beautiful views you get here of the area - a taste of where you're going to be cycling in the coming week. Reserved rental bicycles are parked at the hotel and ready to go.
Day 2: Würzburg – Gemünden / Lohr, approx. 45 / 60 km
Always close to the banks, you cycle out of Weinfranken towards Spessart on your bike rip along the Main from Würzburg to Mainz. Twice today you have the opportunity to view the region from above. In Karlstadt it is worth climbing up to the ruins of Karlsburg Castle, in Gemünden you can look over the area from the ruins of Scherenburg Castle. The route continues in ever tighter bends through wooded hills. At the end of the day, you will meet the river Lohr at Lohr.
Day 3: Lohr – Wertheim, approx. 45 / 60 km
The Main valley now narrows, the landscape is once again wooded, quiet and secluded. Stroll through the fishermen's quarter and across the castle square before getting back on the saddle. Past Neustadt and Rothenfels, with its castle dating back to 1148, you cycle along quiet paths to Marktheidenfeld. In this small, lively town with an old town worth seeing, Franconian wine culture is held in high regard. In Wertheim you finally reach your stage destination.
Day 4: Wertheim – Miltenberg, approx. 45 km
In addition to the spectacular Main Loop near Wertheim, numerous castles and ruins accompany you on your bike trip along the Main today. Visit one of the largest and most striking castle ruins in Germany near Stadtprozelten. From the top, enjoy the view over the Main valley and the foothills of the Odenwald. Once you arrive in Miltenberg, spend the rest of the day in the medieval half-timbered town, which has several sights to offer.
Day 5: Miltenberg – Aschaffenburg, approx. 45 km
Mostly close to the river banks, you cycle today alternately through small towns and quiet wooded areas. Accompanied by the boats on the river, you reach the Spessart metropolis of Aschaffenburg. Even from a distance, the tower quadrangle of Johannisburg Castle shows you the way. Stroll through the old town of Ascheberg, as the locals say, and relax in the castle gardens or the idyllic Schöntal Park.
Day 6: Aschaffenburg – Frankfurt, approx. 55 km
After a few kilometres, you will pass the state border between Bavaria and Hesse. You should not miss a stop in the lush herb garden of the Einhard Basilica in Seligenstadt. Afterwards, your bike trip along the Main continues to Hanau, which bears the official epithet of the Brothers Grimm City. You will spend the night in the Main metropolis Frankfurt.
Day 7: Frankfurt – Mainz, approx. 45 km
Today, enjoy the differences between big city flair and rural idyll. After leaving Frankfurt behind, you cycle through orchards and vineyards to Flörsheim and through the half-timbered town of Hochheim. At the confluence of the Main and Rhine rivers, you reach the capital of Rhineland-Palatinate. In the evening you can enjoy "Weck, Worscht und Woi" in one of the numerous wine taverns in the beautiful old town.
