The bike tour from Salzburg to Prague connects the Mozart City with the Golden City. These two cities have a lot to offer - but you will also experience a lot during the tour! First you cycle through the dreamlike Salzkammergut past mountain peaks and glittering lakes to the Imperial City Bad Ischl. Along the Traun you reach Linz and from there you continue via the romantic Mühlviertel to South Bohemia. You follow the Vltava River and cycle through magnificent primeval and cultural landscapes and idyllic Bohemian villages. The old towns of Český Krumlov and České Budějovice will also delight you. Passing beautiful river landscapes, you will cycle past numerous castles and palaces that will take you back in time. The bike tour from Salzburg to Prague is quite demanding, but you can always cool off by jumping into the cool water. The beautiful and varied landscape will also more than reward your efforts.

Day 1: Individual arrival in Salzburg

Welcome to your bike tour from Salzburg to Prague! Take the time to explore the multifaceted city of Mozart. On a walk to the Hohensalzburg Fortress, the city's landmark, you will have a wonderful view of the city and its surroundings from the Fortress Hill. The heart of Salzburg's old town, Getreidegasse, also has a lot to offer. There you will travel back in time to Mozart's birthplace.

Day 2: Salzburg - St. Gilgen on Lake Wolfgang, approx. 45 km

It is with a heavy heart that you leave Salzburg. But the next days of your bike tour from Salzburg to Prague will be no less exciting! The first stage takes you through Salzburg's Flachgau region. Along the former historic Ischlerbahn route you cycle through places worth seeing such as Eugendorf and Thalgau to Lake Mondsee. Take advantage of the time for an extensive lunch break on the shore before continuing to Lake Wolfgang. With St. Gilgen you have reached your destination for today. Although Mozart was never here, nevertheless he is omnipresent. After all, not only were his grandfather and mother born here, also his sister found her new home here.

Day 3: St. Gilgen - Traunsee - Linz, approx. 60 km + train ride

First you cycle along the shore of Lake Wolfgangsee. The view of the lake embedded in mountain landscapes will inspire you. You can refresh yourself by jumping into the cool water before continuing your journey. The Ischler Ache leads you to the imperial town of Bad Ischl. Use the time to visit the Kaiservilla, where Empress Elisabeth and Emperor Franz Joseph once spent the summer months. Continue along the course of the Traun River until you soon reach Ebensee on Lake Traunsee. In Gmunden it's goodbye Salzkammergut. The train takes you to the Upper Austrian capital Linz on the Danube.

Day 4: Linz - Aigen - Český Krumlov, approx. 70 km + train ride

You start today's cycling tour from Salzburg to Prague in a relaxed way with a train ride to Aigen in the Mühlviertel. You will soon cross the border to the Czech Republic by bike. Today you have a few climbs to master. However, the immensely beautiful and varied landscape will compensate you. Before you follow the Vltava towards Český Krumlov, you have the opportunity to refresh yourself at the Lipno reservoir. Today's stage destination Český Krumlov, also known by its German name Krumau, is one of the most beautiful towns in the Czech Republic. A walk through the old town lined with historic buildings in Renaissance and Baroque style will impress you.

Day 5: Český Krumlov - České Budějovice, approx. 30 km

The fourth stage of your cycle tour from Salzburg to Prague is deliberately kept shorter. In Krumlov you can discover a lot: a must see is the extensive castle complex high above the Vltava River. It is one of the most important architectural monuments in Central Europe. Full of new impressions, get on your bike and continue your journey past numerous small farming villages. Enjoy the peace and seclusion of nature once again. Soon you reach the town of České Budějovice, famous for its beer. Take a stroll through the pretty old town before tasting some of the delicious beers. Cheers!

Day 6: České Budějovice - Písek, approx. 70 km

You leave České Budějovice and cycle along the banks of the Vltava River through the beautiful landscape of South Bohemia. High above the Vltava, you will soon catch sight of Hluboká Castle. It is one of the most beautiful castles in South Bohemia. Originally a castle, it received its present appearance after numerous reconstructions. The English Windsor Castle served as a model. Enjoy a walk through the beautiful castle park and visit the building with its many turrets, battlements and playful details. The last part of your stage takes you through charming landscapes along the golden Otava to Písek.

Day 7: Písek - Sedlčany, approx. 70 km

You cycle along the banks of the Otava to Zvíkov. At the confluence of the Otava and Vltava rivers lies the impressive Zvíkov Castle on a headland. In the Middle Ages it was one of the most important and most difficult castles to capture in Bohemia. Soon you will reach the next highlight in Orlík - the important Gothic castle. The cycle path leads you through the deep green Bohemian forest, small villages and along the Vltava reservoir to today's destination - Sedlčany. Enjoy the evening in the picturesque small town.

Day 8: Sedlčany - Prague, approx. 65 km

Passing numerous idyllic villages, the last stage of your cycle tour from Salzburg to Prague takes you through slightly hilly and multifaceted landscapes. You will come across cozy pubs where you can take a break. Enjoy the typical Bohemian cuisine and a refreshing beer. No doubt - the highlight of today's stage is the arrival in the Golden City of Prague. Stroll leisurely through the historic city centre and explore the winding alleys. Stroll across the Charles Bridge and enjoy the unique view over the city from Prague Castle.

Do you need more time to visit Prague's numerous sights? No problem! We would be happy to extend your stay with an extra night. Otherwise, your bike tour from Salzburg to Prague will already end after breakfast and you will start your journey home.
