Our bike tour on Rügen and Usedom takes you to the two largest islands in Germany. Both are among the most popular travel destinations in the north of the republic and await you with a wealth of sights and experiences. You start our bike tour on Rügen and Usedom in the Hanseatic city of Stralsund, which is characterized by its brick buildings. Continue to Rügen and directly to the sea in the Baltic seaside resort of Göhren. Treat yourself to a trip to the Mönchgut peninsula or a day of swimming at the beach. Take the Rasende Roland to Putbus. Back on the mainland, get to know the Hanseatic and university town of Greifswald and Wolgast, known for its Blue Wonder. Just a stone's throw away, you have already reached Usedom. The island, known for its imperial spas and piers, awaits you with seemingly endless sandy beaches, sophisticated villas and even more healthy, salty air. Cycle across the island to the natural paradise of the Szczecin Lagoon. At the end of our bike tour on Rügen and Usedom, you will reach your destination of Ueckermünde.
The starting point of your bike tour on Rügen and Usedom is the old Hanseatic city of Stralsund. It is known as the gateway to the island of Rügen as it was founded by the Slavs and grew to a city under the rule of the Westphalians. The old town boasts an impressive number of buildings from the Brick Gothic period. Make a detour to the impressive St. Nikolai Church and the Ozeaneum, which takes you into the world of the seas and its inhabitants.
Today you will get to know the island of Rügen. First take the train (included) from Stralsund to Bergen. Pay a visit to the Ernst Moritz Arndt Tower. It is located on the 91-metre-high Rugard, an elevation on the outskirts of the town. Enjoy the breathtaking view over large parts of Rügen before heading to the Baltic Sea coast. Once you arrive in Göhren, it is off to the beach. Feel the fine sand under your feet as you take an evening stroll to the pier and let the Baltic Sea wind blow around your nose.
The diverse landscape of the Mönchgut peninsula is your destination today. Enjoy a day of swimming at the beach between Thiessow and Lobbe. Or how about a short hike through the Zicker mountains? Although these are only 66 meters high at most, they are a wonderful way to explore the peninsula on foot. At the start of today's stage of your bike tour on Rügen and Usedom, you can look forward to a very special highlight the historic train- Rasender Roland. The historic steam-powered train dates back to the 19th century and takes you to Putbus (train ride included). Here the youngest town on Rügen impresses with its classicist style. Cycle to Glewitz, just a few kilometers away. Upon arrival you can take the ferry (not included) to Stahlbrode, get back on your bike until you reach the final destination of the day the university town of Greifswald.
Today you cycle along the Baltic Sea coastal cycle path to Wolgast, the gateway to the island of Usedom. On the way, it is worth taking a break for a swim on the long sandy beaches of Lubmin. Refreshed, you will reach Wolgast. Visit the picturesque old town with its many monuments. From the tower of St. Peter's Church you have a wonderful view above the town. Experience the blue wonder on the Peene River. The striking blue bascule bridge connects the mainland with the island of Usedom via the castle island.
Relax and cycle across the Peene Bridge to the island of Usedom. First you head to the Baltic seaside resort of Zinnowitz cycling along the forest-covered coast. Here you can enjoy a dip in the cool waters of the Baltic Sea. Before continuing to Heringsdorf- one of Usedom's imperial resorts. The sophisticated seaside resort boasts a 508-metre-long pier , the longest in Germany. A few kilometers inland lies the estate village of Mellenthin and its romantic castle. You will stay overnight in either Heringsdorf or Mellenthin.
Today's bike tour takes you to the south-western part of Usedom in a relaxed manner including only a few climbs. Visit the town of Usedom which gave the island its name and wander through its streets. A stop at the Anklamer Tor with its local history museum and the impressive church Marienkirche will await you before boarding the ferry to Kamp in Karnin. During the short crossing, the Karnin lift bridge will catch your eye. It is a remnant of a former railroad bridge. Not far from the shore of the Szczecin Lagoon, you will reach your destination for the day, Ueckermünde.
