Our bike tour on Rügen and Usedom leads you to the two biggest islands of Germany. Both belong to the most popular travel destinations in the North of Germany and expect you with numerous sights and attractions. You start our bike tour on Rügen and Usedom in the hanseatic town Stralsund, that is characterized by brick houses. It goes further to Rügen and directly to the sea into the Baltic sea resort Göhren. Treat yourself with a trip to the peninsula Mönchgut or a swimming day at the beach – as you like. With the Rasender Roland, you go to Putbus. Back on the mainland, you get to know the hanseatic and university city Greifswald and Wolgast, that is famous for its blue miracle. Just a stone’s throw away, you have already reached Usedom. The island, that is famous for its imperial spas and piers, expects you with apparently endless sand beaches, fashionable villas and even more healthy, salty air. Across the island, you cycle to the nature paradise Szczecin Lagoon. At the end of your bike tour on Rügen and Usedom, you get to Ueckermünde.

Map for cycling tour on Rügen and Usedom

Day 1: Individual arrival in Stralsund

The starting point of the bike tour on Rügen and Usedom is the old hanseatic town Stralsund. The gate to the island Rügen, as the hanseatic town is liked to be called, was founded by the Slavs and developed to a city by the Westphalians. Stroll through the old town, that expects you with an impressive number of buildings from the time of the brick Gothic. Make a detour to the impressive St. Nikolai church and to the Ozeaneum that takes you into the world of the Marine life and its inhabitants.

Day 2: Stralsund – Göhren, approx. 45 km + train ride

Today you get to know the island Rügen. By train (included), it first goes from Stralsund to Bergen. Pay a visit to the Ernst-Moritz-Arndt tower at the edge of the town. It is based on the 91-meter-high Rugard, a hill at the outskirts of the city. Enjoy the view over wide parts of Rügen, before you head to the Baltic Sea coast. Arrived in Göhren, it goes to the beach. Feel the fine sand under your feet, when you make an evening walk to the pier and let the Baltic sea air wind around your nose.

Day 3: Day on the beach or hiking on the Mönchgut peninsula

The diverse landscape of the Mönchgut peninsula is your destination today. If you want, enjoy a swimming day at the beach between Thiessow and Lobbe. Or what about a small hiking tour through the Zickerschen mountains? Although they are only 66 meters high, they are wonderful to walk through the peninsula and to collect new impressions. You can get to know more about the peninsula in the Mönchguter local history museum in Göhren.

Day 4: Göhren – Greifswald, approx. 50 km + train ride and ferry trip

At the beginning of today’s stage of your bike tour on Rügen and Usedom, you can look forward to a very special highlight: Rasender Roland. The historical steam-operated railway dates back to the 19th century and takes you to Putbus (train ride included). The youngest city on Rügen impresses as a plan city in the Classicistic style. By bike it goes into the only a few kilometers distanced Glewitz. There you take the ferry (not included) to Stahlbrode and take again your bike to today’s destination, the hanseatic and university city Greifswald.

Day 5: Greifswald – Wolgast, approx. 50 km

On the Baltic sea coast cycle path you cycle to Wolgast today, the gate to the island Usedom. On your way, a swimming break at the kilometer-long sand beach of Lubmin is worthwhile. Refreshed, you reach Wolgast. Visit the worth-seeing old town with its many monuments. From the tower of St. Peter's Church you have a wonderful view on the city. At the Peenestrom (a strait) you'll discover a striking blue folding bridge, which – via the castle island – connects the mainland with the Island of Usedom.

Day 6: Wolgast – Heringsdorf / Mellenthin, approx. 40 / 50 km

You cycle relaxed over the Peenebrücke (bridge) to the Island of Usedom. First it goes into the Baltic Sea resort Zinnowirt. Along the wooded coast, you have many possibilities to jump into the cold wet of the Baltic sea. With Heringsdorf, you reach one of the Imperial spas of Usedom. The glamorous sea resort owns a 508-meter-long pier. It’s the longest one in Germany. A few kilometers inwards the island, there is the estate village Mellenthin, that has a romantic water castle. You spend your night in Heringsdorf or Mellenthin.

Day 7: Mellenthin – Ueckermünde, approx. 50 / 60 km + boat trip

Your cycle tour on Rügen and Usedom will take you relaxed and with only a few slopes to the south-western part of Usedom. In the town of Usedom, which gave the island its name, a longer stopover is worthwhile. Visit the Anklamer Tor with its local history museum and the impressive St. Mary's Church before boarding the boat to Kamp in Karnin. During the short crossing, the Karnin lift bridge will catch your eye. It is a remnant of a former railway bridge. Not far from the shore of the Szczecin Lagoon, you head to your destination for the day, Ueckermünde.
