Day 1: Individual arrival in Cologne
Welcome to Cologne! The old cathedral city is an ideal starting point for a Bike tour along the Rhine from Cologne to Arnhem. After checking into your hotel, grab your bike and explore Cologne's old town, the Roman-Germanic Museum or nibble your way through the Chocolate Museum. Treat yourself to a Kölsch on the banks of the Rhine in the old town before setting off on your first stage tomorrow.
Day 2: Cologne – Düsseldorf / Neuss, approx. 55 km
Leaving the Cologne skyline behind you, today you cycle to Düsseldorf or Neuss, depending on where you are staying overnight. Passing the small fortress town of Zons with its picturesque townscape, you reach Neuss, known for its Roman past. The Quirinus Minster and the Clemens Sels Museum are well worth a visit. The longest bar in the world awaits you on the opposite side of the Rhine, in Düsseldorf. More than 250 pubs, bars and restaurants are close together in the old town. If this is too hectic for you, take a stroll along the Königsallee, also known as Kö, or make yourself comfortable in Rheinpark Bilk.
Day 3: Düsseldorf / Neuss – Duisburg, approx. 50 km
Before you reach the Ruhr region, today's cycle stage first takes you to Kaiserswerth. Here, the legendary Emperor Frederick Barbarossa once had an existing castle extended into a mighty fortress. Before the green Rhine meadows give way to the industrial architecture of the Ruhr region, visit the Linn Castle Museum Center, including a moated castle and hunting lodge. Once in the Ruhr region, you will soon reach your destination for the day, Duisburg. See Duisburg with different eyes: on a boat tour through the world's largest inland port. With its striking architecture, Duisburg's inner harbor is well worth an evening stroll.
Day 4: Duisburg – Wesel, approx. 50 km
Your cycling stage today begins with a short S-Bahn ride. A guided tour of the industrial history of the Duisburg-Nord Landscape Park is on the program. On the almost 200-hectare site, you will learn about the history of this former steelworks. The former Hanseatic city of Wesel is your destination for the day. The tower of Willibrordi Cathedral, visible from afar, and the Prussian Museum, which depicts 350 years of Rhineland-Prussian history, are notable sights in Wesel.
Day 5: Wesel – Emmerich, approx. 50 km
Not far from Wesel, the Roman-, Cathedral- and Siegfried-City of Xanten awaits you on today's stage of your Bike tour along the Rhine from Cologne to Arnhem. Germany's largest open-air archaeological museum invites you to visit. Located on the site of the former Roman city Colonia Ulpia Traiana, it is not only fans of Roman culture that will be amazed here. As soon as you have crossed the Rhine over Germany's longest suspension bridge, you will reach Emmerich.
Day 6: Emmerich – Arnhem, approx. 40 km
Today, the Netherlands welcomes you. Not far from the German-Dutch border, the Rhine splits into the Waal and the Nederrijn. You follow the Nederrijn past locks and bridges to Arnhem, the capital of the Dutch province of Gelderland. The lively city invites you to visit the Airborne Museum Hartenstein, which deals with the Battle of Arnhem in the Second World War, at the end of your Bike tour along the Rhine from Cologne to Arnhem. In addition to the city's diverse cultural offerings, numerous parks invite you to take a stroll.
