Your cycle tour from Odense to Kiel starts on the Danish island of Funen. After checking into your hotel, explore Denmark's third largest city on foot or by bike, whichever you prefer. Get to know the cobbled streets lined with colorful little houses. The H.C. Andersen Hus is dedicated to the world-famous writer Hans Christian Andersen, a true Odensean. It takes visitors interactively into his fairytale world.
The first stage of your bike tour from Odense to Copenhagen takes you to the south of Funen. Funen is often referred to as the Garden of Denmark. No wonder, as the island is characterized by blooming gardens, tranquil deciduous forests, extensive parks and fairytale castles. Speaking of castles, it is worth taking a longer break en route at Egeskov Castle, one of the most beautiful moated castles in Europe. In your destination for the day, Svendborg, you can visit the old town with its countless half-timbered houses. The oldest of these is Anne Hvides Gård from the 16th century.
After breakfast, you cycle across the Svendborgsundbroen bridge, which takes you to the Island of Tåsinge. Not far from the sailing town of Troense, you reach Valdemars Slot. It is located directly by the sea and was built in the 17th century. Continue via Siødæmningen, the small island of Siø and Langelandsbroen to the Island of Langeland. The ferry takes you to Tårs on the island of Lolland. You will spend the night in Nakskov, the largest town on the island. Visit the Sukkermuseum, which provides an insight into the history of sugar production, which is still of great economic importance today.
Today we are heading into the heart of Lolland. You cycle on almost flat cycle paths and get to know the beautiful nature of the island. First you cycle to Kragenæs in the north. Enjoy the view of the sea before getting on your bike and heading towards nearby Dodekalitten. This modern work of art is shaped like a stone circle. Continue to the harbour town of Bandholm. Visit Knuthenborg Safari Park, the largest in Northern Europe. A little further south, you arrive in the cozy town of Maribo. You will spend the night in Bandholm or Maribo.
Today's stage of your bike tour from Odense to Copenhagen is also pleasantly flat. Take another look at the sea in Bandholm and stroll through the cozy streets of Maribo before you make your way to Falster. Cross the Guldborg Sound to reach the harbour town of Nykøbing Falster, Denmark's sixth-largest island. Half-timbered houses worth seeing characterize the townscape, as do the monastery church and the water tower. A few kilometres away, you cycle to one of Denmark's most beautiful beaches in Marielyst. You spend the night in Nykøbing Falster or in Marielyst.
After breakfast, another pleasantly flat stage awaits you today. The cycle path first takes you along the coast in the east of Falster. Enjoy beautiful views of the sea not far from the Baltic Sea and a dip or two in the water. For example on the beach in Hesnæs. The small fishing village is known for its characteristic houses, whose walls are wrapped in straw. In Stubbekøbing, a few kilometers away, you can take a ferry to the Island of Bogø and cycle to the Island of Møn. Stege takes you to the island capital of Møns.
The Island of Møn is a popular vacation destination for a reason. Møn has a variety of different landscapes in a very small area. Flat meadows and rocky, wooded hills characterize the island's landscape. Møns Klint, the highest cliff in Denmark, stands out in particular. Through the Klinteskoven beech forest you reach the chalk cliffs, which are up to 128 meters high – a natural spectacle in a class of its own. Steps take you to the pebble beach, ideal for a long walk, before you cycle back to Stege.
Today's stage of your bike tour from Odense to Copenhagen takes you from the Island of Møn to Zealand. You cycle via the Dronning Alexandrines Bro to the largest island in the Baltic Sea. You cycle on slightly hilly cycle paths via Præstø to Faxe Ladeplads. The sandy beach there is perfect for a long swim in the sun. Or how about a quick dip in the sea? Continue on to Rødvig. From the harbour, you can already see the Stevns Klint cliff, which you will get to know better tomorrow.
For part of today's stage, you will be cycling close to the impressive Stevns Klint cliffs. You can take a break in Højerup. The church there is now located right on the very edge of the cliff, having been eroded by wind and sea over the centuries. Continue to the medieval harbour town of Køge. The town was once built by royal order and developed into a flourishing harbour town. Numerous half-timbered houses from the 16th and 17th centuries characterize the townscape. One particular gem is located in Kirkestræde: the oldest house in Denmark.
You cycle along Køger Bugt, where there are always opportunities to take a refreshing dip in the sea, to Copenhagen. Denmark's capital is known for its cosmopolitanism and offers its visitors a wealth of sights. Visit Nyhavn with its colorful little houses, Amalienborg Palace, the Tivoli amusement park and the Little Mermaid at the harbour.
