Day 1: Individual arrival in Odense
Your bike tour from Odense to Aarhus starts on the island of Fyn. Upon arrival you should take your bike to explore Denmark´s third largest town where the famous author Hans Christian Andersen was born. Andersen is renowned for his fairy tales all over the world, and for those who are interested to learn more we recommend to visit his birthplace, the H. C. Andersen Hus. If you prefer to see the town from another point of view you should make a boat tour on the Odense Å.
Day 2: Odense – Middelfart, approx. 60 km
Today you will ride to the Little Belt, the strait between Fyn and the Danish mainland. On the Cycle Route No. 6 you will discover both Fyn´s rich nature and its idyllic countryside. It is no accident that Fyn is also called Denmark´s garden! Upon arrival in Middelfart, you should go for a city tour. The Henner Friisers Hus is one of Denmark´s nicest half-timbering houses. Or how about a boat trip across the Little Belt to spot a porpoise?
Day 3: Middelfart – Vejle, approx. 55 km
Cycling acroos the Lillebæltsbroen – the Little Belt Bridge – you will reach Jutland´s coast. We recommend a first stop in Fredericia. The checkered patterned city is surrounded by a historical wall where you can see old cannons and a watchtower. Vejle´s old landmark is the windmill in the city center, while the Bølgen housing estate at the harbour comes in a modern wave pattern. It´s a highly-rewarded eyecatcher!
Day 4: Vejle – Horsens, approx. 45 km
The bridge across Vejle Fjord in sight, on your bike tour from Odense to Aarhus you first will be riding along the coastline. You will cycle inland mostly through forests on partly hilly cycle tracks. In Horsens you will have the chance to visit the former state prison which now serves as a renowned museum and a site of cultural interest. Vitus Bering is the most famous person of Horsens. In the 18th century he proved that Asia and North America are not connected to each other. Near the train station a small park reminds of Bering.
Day 5: Horsens – Norsminde / Odder, approx. 50 / 60 km
Nearly without any ascent you will be riding to Hou, a small harbour town. Again and again you will enjoy a fantastic view on the Baltic Sea, and nice beaches wait for you to have an extended break. In Odder you will discover the historical watermill and the Odder Sognekirke, one of Denmark´s oldest churches. In Norsminde we recommend to take a walk to the small harbour where you should try some smoked fish. You will spend the night in Odder or Norsminde.
Day 6: Norsminde / Odder – Aarhus, approx. 30 /20 km
The shortest leg of your bike tour from Odense finally leads you to Aarhus. On your way you will get several chances to have a small break or to enjoy the view over the ocean. Denmark´s second largest town welcomes you with a large variety of sights and an exciting cultural life. It is highly recommended to visit the ARoS Art Museum, to walk along Aarhus Å or to try one of the several restaurants in town.
