Day 1: Individual arrival in Würzburg
You start the bike tour along the Main from Würzburg to Frankfurt in the residential city of Würzburg in the middle of the Main Triangle. It is worth arriving early, because there is a lot to explore in Würzburg. A visit to the Marienberg Fortress, a landmark of the city, is a must. From up here you have a magnificent view of the city, the Old Main Bridge and the region you will be cycling in over the next few days. The Würzburg Residence, built in the middle of the 18th century and considered a splendid example of a baroque building, is also worth a visit.
Day 2: Würzburg – Gemünden / Lohr, approx. 40 / 60 km
Today you will get on your bike for the first time for your bike tour along the Main from Würzburg to Frankfurt. Take a detour to Veitshöchheim. The castle there with its impressive garden will take you back to the rococo era. Kilometre by kilometre, you approach the foothills of the Spessart, which is characterised by dense forests and gently rolling hills. Your stage destination today is fairytale-like in the truest sense of the word. Evidence suggests that the fairytale Snow White took place between Lohr and Bieber in Spessart. On a stroll through the Snow White town, you must not miss the fishermen's quarter. The medieval suburb is completely listed.
Day 3: Lohr – Wertheim, approx. 45 / 60 km
You say goodbye to Lohr and cycle leisurely through the Main quadrangle, the cornerstones of which are the towns of Gemünden, Wertheim, Miltenberg and Aschaffenburg. The Main valley now narrows, the landscape is once again wooded, quiet and secluded. On the way, you will come across Marktheidenfeld, which lies between the Main and the Spessart. Your stage destination Wertheim lies at the confluence of the Main and Tauber rivers. Take a walk through the picturesque old town with its numerous half-timbered houses. If you want to go high up, pay a visit to the ruins of Wertheim Castle.
Day 4: Wertheim – Miltenberg, approx. 45 km
The bike tour along the Main from Würzburg to Frankfurttoday takes you through beautiful landscapes, past several castle ruins. In Stadtprozelten you will come across the ruins of Henneburg Castle, whose keep dates back to the 12th century. Today, the ruins are among the most beautiful castle ruins in Germany and offer a magnificent view of the Main valley. Continue on towards Freudenberg! The town is dominated by Freudenburg Castle with its narrow, winding streets and numerous half-timbered houses. After a few kilometres you have reached your destination for the day. The medieval town of Miltenberg is best known for its historic market square, the Schnatterloch (chatter hole).
Day 5: Miltenberg – Aschaffenburg, approx. 45 km
Very close to the shore most of the time, you cycle today alternately through small towns and quiet wooded areas. Soon you will reach Klingenberg. The town is surrounded by magnificent vineyards, which were first mentioned in a document around 1260. In the local wine-growing and local history museum you can learn more about the centuries-old wine-growing tradition. Accompanied by the boats on the Main, you cycle the last few kilometres to your stage destination Aschaffenburg. Even from a distance you will recognise the tower of Johannisburg Castle. Take your time to explore Aschaffenburg's impressive historical buildings.
Day 6: Aschaffenburg – Frankfurt, approx. 55 km
Today is the last stage of your bike T´tour along the Main from Würzburg to Frankfurt. You say goodbye to Bavaria and soon pass the state border with Hesse. Take a break in the romantic town of Seligenstadt. The monastery complex with its courtyard and gardens and the Einhard Basilica are well worth a visit. Via Hanau and Offenbach you finally reach Frankfurt. Visit Frankfurt's Römer, which has served as the city hall since the 15th century and is one of the city's landmarks. If you want to see Frankfurt from above, pay a visit to the Main Tower with its viewing platform.
