Day 1: Individual arrival in Kiel
Your cycle tour from Kiel to Copenhagen begins in the state capital of Schleswig-Holstein. Grab your bike as soon as you arrive at your hotel and explore the city. Watch the hustle and bustle of Kiel harbour from the Hörnbrücke bridge and stroll along the Kiellinie. If you want to soak up some sun and enjoy the view of the sea, cycle to Falckensteiner Strand – the perfect spot for getting in the mood for the days ahead.
Day 2: Kiel – Eutin, approx. 55 km
From Kiel, follow the River Schwentine, which takes you through a gently undulating landscape and a region characterized by small lakes. With the shoemaker town of Preetz, you reach the gateway to Holstein Switzerland. Pay a visit to the Preetz monastery and treat yourself to a swim in Lake Lank before continuing on to Plön. The town's landmark is the Renaissance-style castle. An equally interesting castle awaits you in Eutin. In addition to a stroll through the cozy old town, you can also take a dip in the Great Eutin Lake.
Day 3: Eutin – Heiligenhafen, approx. 60 km
Today's stage of your bike tour from Kiel to Copenhagen takes you to the Baltic Sea. Past Kellersee Lake, through meadows, fields and forests, the cycle route takes you to Oldenburg in Holstein. Visit the Wallmuseum, which shows the history of the Slavs in East Holstein. Continue along the Baltic Sea Coast Cycle Route to your destination for the day, Heiligenhafen. Take a stroll along the pier promenade and watch the many surfers jetting over the waves on the beaches.
Day 4: Heiligenhafen – Maribo / Bandholm, approx. 60 / 65 km + ferry ride
You cycle towards Fehmarn not far from the Baltic Sea. You reach Germany's third largest island via the Fehmarn Sound Bridge. Cycle past Burger See Lake to Burg, the main town on this sunny island. Enjoy a coffee in the center of Burg before you make your way to the landing stage in Puttgarden. Take the ferry to the port of Rødby on the Danish island of Lolland. You cycle along flat paths to the cozy little town of Maribo. A little further north you reach the harbour town of Bandholm. You spend the night in Bandholm or in Maribo.
Day 5: Maribo – Nykøbing / Marielyst, approx. 30 – 50 km
If you would like to immerse yourself in the animal world of our seven continents on today's stage of your bike tour from Kiel to Copenhagen, the Knuthenborg Safaripark between Bandholm and Maribo offers you the opportunity to do so. Cycle to the east of Lolland on pleasantly flat cycle paths. You cycle across the Guldborgsund strait to the harbour town of Nykøbing Falster. The townscape of the main town on the Island of Falster is characterized by colourful little houses, the monastery church and the water tower. Just outside the town is the Middelaldercentret. The open-air museum takes visitors back to the late Middle Ages.
Day 6: Nykøbing Falster - Stege, approx. 70 km + ferry ride
Another almost flat stage lies ahead of you. First you follow the cycle path towards the coast. Along the Baltic Sea, you can enjoy wonderful views of the sea and take frequent breaks on the beach. A stop in Hesnæs is also worthwhile. The walls and roofs of the houses in the fishing village are wrapped in straw – unique in Denmark. In Stubbekøbing, take the ferry to the Island of Bogø and continue by bike to the Island of Møn. Your overnight stop is Stege, one of the oldest trading towns in the country.
Day 7: Excursion to Møns Klint, approx. 55 km
Today you will get to know Møn on your bike tour from Kiel to Copenhagen. The island is a popular travel destination that impresses with its unique mix of breathtaking nature and wild originality. Møn is particularly famous for its chalk cliffs. Møns Klint is up to 128 meters high, making it the highest cliff in Denmark. The pebble beach can be reached via steps and is ideal for a long walk. In the GeoCenter Møns Klint you can learn more about the formation of Denmark and the cliffs. Cycle back to Stege through the Klinteskoven beech forest.
Day 8: Stege – Rødvig, approx. 70 km
From Stege, you cycle to the Island of Zealand on your bike tour from Kiel to Copenhagen. First you cross the Dronning Alexandrines Bro and reach the largest island in the Baltic Sea. You cycle north on cycle paths with gentle inclines. You cycle via the pretty little town of Præstø to Faxe Ladeplads. The beach there offers fine sand and plenty of space to swim and soak up the sun. It is not far to your destination for the day, Rødvig. The flint kiln, a historic flint oven not far from the harbour, is one of the town's landmarks.
Day 9: Rødvig - Køge, approx. 35 km
Today, you are not far from the impressive Stevns Klint cliff. UNESCO has awarded the cliff, which is around 15 kilometers long, the status of a World Heritage Site. You can find out more about the formation of Stevns Klint and what the extinction of the dinosaurs has to do with it at the Stevns Klint Experience visitor center. A few kilometers away you will reach Højerup. The church there dates back to the 13th century. Favored by wind, sea and landslides, the church is now located directly on the outermost edge of the coast - a great photo motif. You reach your destination for the day in the harbor town of Køge.
Day 10: Køge – Copenhagen, approx. 45 km
You cycle along Køger Bugt, where there are always opportunities to take a refreshing dip in the sea, to Copenhagen. Denmark's capital is known for its cosmopolitanism and offers its visitors a wealth of sights. Visit Nyhavn with its colorful little houses, Amalienborg Palace, the Tivoli amusement park and the Little Mermaid at the harbour.
