Bike tour around the Kaiserstuhl

Freiburg is located in one of the sunniest regions of Germany, nestled between the Kaiserstuhl and the Black Forest. After checking in at the hotel, grab your bikes and take a first detour into the city of brooks. But beware, according to legend, anyone who unintentionally steps into one of the watercourses must marry a Fribourg citizen in the course of his or her life. Treat yourself to a freshly grilled Münsterwurst amidst the lively hustle and bustle of the Münstermarkt.

Get in the saddle and set off on the first stage of your bike tour around Freiburg. Get out of the hustle and bustle of the city and into the idyllic landscape. You cycle along vineyards and through beautiful little villages. Discover the charming old towns of Breisach and Burkheim. Taste the sun-drenched wines of the region, plus a portion of Leberle with Brägele and you'll be fortified for the onward journey.

Not far from the floodplains of the Rhine, your cycle path leads you today first through the vineyards of the Kaiserstuhl. Expect some uphill stretches for the first few kilometres. You will be rewarded with a magnificent view over the wine region. Afterwards you cycle on pleasantly flat paths through numerous small winegrowing communities. Today's stage of the bike tour around Freiburg brings you back to the starting point of the day.

You cross the Rhine by bike and thus also the national border to France. Neuf-Brisach is the town of the Sun King. A tour of the octagonal, architecturally unique town will also fascinate you. Then cycle to charming Colmar. Old, well-preserved half-timbered houses and bridges decorated with flowers add to the dreamy atmosphere of the Petite Venise district.

The Rhine flows northwards. You follow the river – but in the opposite direction. Soon you reach the first bathing resorts. Here on the edge of the Black Forest, healing waters emerge from the mountains and favour the operation of thermal baths, some of them since Roman times. Visit a Roman bathing ruin before enjoying the pleasant thermal waters yourself in the Cassiopeia Therme (not included).

The last stage of your bike tour leads you through the lovely Markgräflerland region back to Freiburg. Vineyards accompany you to the right and left through the sun-drenched region. Baden serenity reigns in the villages and towns on the edge of the Black Forest. Slowly, it becomes more lively again and you will soon be back at the starting point of your journey – in the university city of Freiburg.
