Welcome to Dublin, the lively capital of Ireland! After your arrival, you will have time to explore the city on your own. Visit the imposing Trinity College, stroll through the historic Temple Bar district or enjoy a Guinness in a traditional pub. Your first overnight stay will be in the harbour town of Dun Laoghaire, a well-known suburb of Dublin by the sea, so that you can start your bike tour around Dublin well rested.
You start off in a relaxed manner on quiet roads and cycle paths heading south. Your first stop is the picturesque coastal village of Dalkey, which impresses with its historic atmosphere and prominent residents. Here you can take a break and enjoy the lively café culture. The route then takes you along the spectacular Vico Road with breathtaking views of Killiney Bay. Continue into the green hinterland, past rolling hills and wide meadows, until you reach your destination for the day, Enniskerry. In the evening, you have the option of taking a transfer to the famous Johnnie Fox's Pub – the highest pub in Ireland. A convivial evening with traditional Irish music, delicious specialties and a freshly tapped Guinness awaits you here.
Your cycling day today begins with the opportunity to visit the impressive Powerscourt Gardens - one of the most beautiful gardens in Ireland. You will then cycle along the spectacular Sally Gap Road, one of the most famous mountain routes in the country. Enjoy the breathtaking views of the wide valleys and deep moors of the Wicklow Mountains. Roundwood offers an ideal opportunity for a relaxing lunch break before you continue to the picturesque Lough Dan. The last few kilometers take you through a green hilly landscape to Laragh, not far from Glendalough. One of the most important historical highlights of the region awaits you there: the impressive monastery ruins of Glendalough with the characteristic round tower, idyllically situated between two lakes.
Today you have time to explore the impressive monastery complex of Glendalough on your bike tour around Dublin. The ruins from the 6th century and the almost mystical surroundings make this place a special experience. If you prefer something more active, you can spend the day on an additional hike or a short cycle tour through the surrounding area. Alternatively, the tranquil atmosphere of the village invites you to spend a few relaxing hours in nature.
After a relaxing break, continue south. The route runs through dense forests and over rolling hills, with magnificent views of the surrounding mountains. You start along the east bank of the Avonmore River and can visit the historic Avondale House and the surrounding Forest Park on the way. A detour to the charming village of Avoca is also worthwhile – known as the filming location for the popular BBC series "Ballykissangel". Alternatively, take a route through the remote, rugged mountain landscape along the old military road that was once built for British troops. Your destination for the day is the traditional Woodenbridge Hotel, where you can end the evening in comfort.
Today you have the choice between two attractive routes. One takes you over gentle coastal hills with the opportunity to take a refreshing break at the beautiful Brittas Bay – a sandy beach that has been awarded the Blue Flag. Alternatively, you can opt for a route through wooded hills on almost traffic-free roads. Here you will pass remote villages and the mysterious Mottee Stone, a legendary landmark of the region. You then roll down to the coast and reach Wicklow, a lively town with Viking roots. The charming harbour, the historic prison ruins of Wicklow Gaol and the impressive Black Castle ruins make this stop particularly worthwhile.
Your last day on the bike takes you back inland, first to Roundwood, where you can fortify yourself with a morning coffee. You then continue on quiet country roads through the picturesque countryside to Enniskerry, where you can take a lunch break. You then tackle the last stage, which takes you back to Dublin. Your impressive cycle tour through the east of Ireland ends here with a final overnight stay in the capital.
After a last leisurely breakfast, your eventful bike tour around Dublin comes to an end. With many unforgettable impressions in your luggage, you can start your journey home or take the opportunity to extend your stay and explore Dublin a little further – be it on a walk along the River Liffey or a visit to the extensive Phoenix Park.
