Welcome to Prague! It's worth arriving early to discover the "Golden City". Stroll through the old town, marvel at the Astronomical Clock and enjoy the view from Prague Castle. Your first day of cycling takes you out of Prague and through the fertile Polabí region, where you can take a break in the charming old town of Čelákovice. Another highlight is Přerov nad Labem with the oldest open-air museum in Europe, which offers insights into traditional village culture. On hot days, it's worth taking a refreshing dip in one of the local lakes before you reach the historic royal town of Nymburk. Its impressive city walls stretch along the Elbe and bear witness to an eventful past. End the day with a glass of the local Postřižiny beer – as a tribute to the famous writer Bohumil Hrabal, who grew up here in the brewery.
Today you first follow the Elbe on a pleasant cycle path and reach the charming spa town of Poděbrady. Stroll through the elegant parks or taste the famous mineral water before continuing on to Kolín. The old royal town impresses with its magnificent Renaissance synagogue and picturesque old town. Here you leave the river and cycle into the heart of Czech history: Kutná Hora. The former silver mining town was one of the most important places in Europe in the Middle Ages. Stroll through the center, which is characterized by Gothic and Baroque architecture, and be amazed by the imposing St. Barbara's Church – a Gothic masterpiece and UNESCO World Heritage Site!
Before you leave Kutná Hora, visit the unusual Sedlec Ossuary, which is adorned with the bones of over 30,000 people. On the way back to the Elbe, you can visit the classicist Kačina Castle before cycling to the Kladruby National Stud Farm, which has been breeding noble horses since the 16th century. A refreshing break on the beach at Lake Buňkov awaits you before you reach Pardubice. The town enchants with a picturesque old town, an impressive castle and is famous for its gingerbread – a sweet end to the fourth day of your bike tour in Czech Republic!
After a short climb, the impressive Kunětická Hora castle awaits you with a magnificent view. The route continues along the Loučná river to Vraclav, where a monument commemorates the noble Vršovci family. In Vysoké Mýto, marvel at the large market square and the well-preserved town gates before reaching your destination of Litomyšl. The UNESCO town boasts a magnificent Renaissance castle and is the birthplace of the composer Bedřich Smetana.
Today you cycle from Bohemia to Moravia and cross the historic border between the Bohemian-Moravian Highlands and the Orlické Mountains. A stopover in Svitavy is worthwhile – the charming Renaissance town impresses with its spacious market square. Oskar Schindler was also born here and his story is known worldwide. A short but rewarding climb over the Hřebeč Mountains takes you to the town of Moravská Třebová. Your destination for the day is a magnificent Renaissance castle – one of the most beautiful in Moravia.
You first follow the River Třebůvka along the historic border between Bohemia and Moravia, past old castle ruins. A highlight of the day is the fairytale Bouzov Castle – one of the most romantic castles in the Czech Republic. From here, the route descends into the Morava valley, whose course accompanies you all the way to Olomouc. If you want to take it easier, you can shorten part of the route by train. The UNESCO city of Olomouc awaits you with baroque sculptures, magnificent churches and a unique astronomical clock from the communist era.
On today's stage of your bike tour in Czech Republic, you cycle along the Bystřice and enjoy wonderful views of the Holy Mountain in the Tršice region. In Přerov, you meet the Bečva and follow the well-maintained cycle path upstream. A stopover in Lipník is worthwhile – the charming town attracts visitors with its castle and magnificent gardens. If you still have energy left, you can climb up to the imposing Helfštýn Castle. Your destination for the day is Hranice with its beautiful Renaissance square. Alternatively, you can relax in the nearby spa town of Teplice nad Bečvou.
A challenging but rewarding stage awaits you! First you follow the Bečva river before heading uphill to the ruins of Starý Jičín castle – a fantastic viewpoint. In Nový Jičín, it is worth taking a stroll through the picturesque old town with its charming market square. The route continues on a hilly route with the first views of the Beskids. Your destination for the day is the idyllic Štramberk, known for its historic wooden houses, the striking castle tower and the famous regional specialty – the fragrant Štramberk ears.
After starting in Štramberk, you reach Kopřivnice, known for the legendary Tatra trucks. Soon afterwards, the imposing Hukvaldy Castle towers over the landscape – a detour is well worthwhile! The town is also the birthplace of composer Leoš Janáček, whose legacy can be felt here. You cycle along the Ondřejnice river to Frýdek-Místek, where you can take a lunch break. In the afternoon, you cycle past the idyllic Žermanice reservoir - perfect for a refreshing break. Your destination is the twin town of Český Těšín/Cieszyn on the Czech-Polish border.
Today you cross the border into Poland and slowly leave the mountains behind you. The route takes you along quiet country roads to Skoczów, where you meet the Vistula for the first time. You continue through a picturesque lake landscape, characterized by the impressive Goczałkowice Dam. Your next destination is Pszczyna with its magnificent castle and the Zubr Nature Park, home to the European bison. In the evening, you reach Oświęcim – a town with a long history that is inextricably linked to the former Auschwitz concentration camp.
The last day of your bike tour in Czech Republic takes you along the Vistula on flat, well-maintained cycle paths. Enjoy the beautiful river landscape as you cycle leisurely towards Kraków. If you fancy a detour, you can visit the ruins of Lipowiec Castle or explore the open-air museum in Babice. Shortly before Kraków, it is worth stopping at the Dominican monastery in Tyniec – the oldest monastery in Poland with an impressive history. Finally, you reach Kraków, the former royal city with its magnificent market square and numerous historical treasures. Alternatively, you can shorten your trip with a train transfer to allow more time to visit Auschwitz.
After eventful days full of cultural discoveries, impressive landscapes and unforgettable cycle tours, your trip ends in Kraków after breakfast. Perhaps there is still some time left for a last stroll through the old town or a coffee with a view of the main market square before you start your journey home.
