Along one of the most beautiful waterways, the Mosel cycle path takes you through Germany‘s most well-known region for wine. You always keep to the waterside, which winds its stately way slowly through the hills. Wonder at the Roman town of Trier with its famous Porta Nigra, the emperor‘s baths and a perfectly intact amphitheatre. You will get to know places such as Bernkastel-Kues, Traben-Trarbach and Cochem, which all line the Mosel cycle path. In between is the lush green of the gentle vineyards. Where Mosel and Rhine meet is Coblenz and the Deutsche Eck or German Corner. Don‘t miss out on tasting the Mosel wines.

The Moselle Cycle Path

Day 1: Individual arrival in Trier

Experience 2000 years of history in 2000 steps: From the Roman city gate Porta Nigra to the Romanesque Dreikönigenhaus and the rococo palace of the electors, Trier offers a journey through German history in a very small space. So plan enough time in Trier at the start of your Moselle cycle tour! Your rental bikes, if booked, will be waiting for you at the hotel. And if you are looking for the right wine to kick off your tour, why not try one of the famous Riesling wines from the Mosel-Ruwer region?

Day 2: Trier – Trittenheim region, approx. 40 km

You leave Tier along the Moselle and will quickly realize why the Moselle cycle path is one of the most popular in Germany: well-developed cycle paths, hardly any traffic and gentle green vineyards to the right and left of the river. There are also numerous sights that were once left behind by the Romans and the centuries-old winegrowing culture. The old ferry tower in Schweich and the Villa Rustica in Mehring are just two of the buildings worth seeing on today's stage. You will reach Trittenheim, your destination for the day, in a relaxed manner.

Day 3: Trittenheim – Zeltingen, approx. 35 km

To ensure that you have plenty of time for breaks on today's stage, the route is deliberately kept quite short. After all, Neumagen-Dhron and Bernkastel-Kues are two idyllic wine-growing villages along the way. Incidentally, Neumagen-Dhron is often referred to as the oldest wine village in Germany! Medieval half-timbered houses await you in Bernkastel-Kues. The small town looks like something out of a picture book. You have already reached the end of your stage in Zeltlingen. Be sure to take a stroll through the town and admire the Moselle Baroque style!

Day 4: Zeltingen – Zell, approx. 35 km

Your Moselle cycle path takes you along the river through Kröv with its famous Kröver Nacktarsch vineyard to Traben-Trarbach. The town is a jewel with classicist and art nouveau buildings. You then cycle around the Zeller Hamm. This is a circular mountain that the Moselle flows around in a magnificent loop. Your destination is the small town of Zell. With 4.5 million vines, it lies in the middle of the largest wine-growing communities in the region.

Day 5: Zell – Treis-Karden, approx. 50 km

You cycle along wonderful paths along the Moselle to Beilstein with its pretty half-timbered old town. The ruins of Metternich, which belonged to the imperial chancellor of the same name, lie above the town. The town of Cochem and its imperial castle are a popular vacation destination and are only a few kilometers away. Against the backdrop of the Coraidelstein ruins, you reach today's destination, Treis-Karden. The collegiate church of St. Castor is also known as the Moseldom.

Day 6: Treis-Karden – Koblenz, approx. 40 km

You cycle at a brisk pace on well-maintained paths on your last stage to Koblenz. On the way, you should take a look at the oldest half-timbered house in Germany, the Abteihof dating from 1320, in Kobern-Gondorf. The Moselle finally flows into the Rhine in Koblenz. At the Deutsches Eck, the confluence, you have also completed the last few kilometers of your Moselle cycle path. Make sure you take a souvenir photo in front of the monument! If you still want to enjoy an overwhelming view of the landscape, we recommend climbing up to Ehrenbreitenstein Fortress!

Day 7: Individual departure

After breakfast, your classic Moselle cycle path comes to an end. If you don't want to start your journey home straight away, we will be happy to extend your stay in Koblenz.
