The first day in the saddle on the Munich Lakes Cycle Tour starts magnificently: you pedal out of the busy town and into the countryside! The cycle path takes you through the Forstenried Park, a nature reserve, and Würmtal Valley. On today's section, there are lots of smaller hills - don't forget though that you are rewarded by lots of downhill sections too!Andechs Monastery watches over Lake Ammer. The monastery is Bavaria's oldest place of pilgrimage. It's worth stopping here. Enjoy a Bavarian Brotzeit snack and a beer from the monastery's own brewery. And then let your gaze take in the Alpine panorama. Next, you cycle down to Herrsching, one of two possible places to stay the night. If your accommodation is in Dießen, you have a wonderful boat trip there, over to the other side of Ammersee Lake!

Following the little river Ammer, you leave Herrsching. Your next highlight along today's route is Pfaffenwinkel – Parson's Corner. The region is called so because of the large number of monasteries there is here. Today, you will be cycling through hilly countryside. Discover the mystic moorscape and hidden rivers. You soon arrive in Weilheim with its famous monasteries and churches. The town is the centre of the Upper Bavarian Pfaffenwinkel. The colourful façades of the houses are a special feature of the old quarter. Admire the partially intact town wall, which dates back to the so-called Gründerzeit period. Leaving Weilheim, you cycle pass luscious meadows and thick forest. Today's destination is either the west bank, or a little further to the east bank of Lake Starnberg.

You cycle all the way round the lake. It's a must on this Munich Lakes Cycle Tour. The cycle path takes you through unique places along the lake. There's a lot to discover! Did you know that the lakeside is a popular breeding places for a diverse range of birds? A highlight is, without doubt, the Votiv chapel. The chapel was built as a monument to the fairy-tale king, Ludwig II. From here, you can see the place where his corpse was once found. He gave Bavaria many beautiful castles. On the west side of the lake is Feldafing, and further upstream Rose Island, which is the only island on Lake Starnberg. You constant companion is the breath-taking view of the lake. The fourth section of the Munich Lakes Cycle Tour begins with a special highlight: the Osterseen. They consist of 19 small individual lakes and have been a nature reserve for quite some time. You cycle on the cycle path through the middle of the beautiful, untouched landscape. And soon the next lake spreads out in front of you. It is Riegsee Lake, which enchants with its Upper Bavarian farms. You cycle on to Murnau. The Murnauer Moos is a unique piece wetland in Europe due to its size. Now there is one more incline to overcome and you are already cycling directly towards Kochel Lake. Visit the Franz Marc Museum. The colorful artist once lived in the municipality of Kochel and painted many of his famous pictures there.

A relatively short section awaits you. You leave Kochel Lake via the wetlands and cycle along well-developed cycle paths through typical Bavarian countryside and towns. The beer garden in Benediktbeuern is an ideal spot for your first break. Back in the saddle, you cycle at a leisurely pace, passing camp sites and restaurants that serve the local cuisine. Bad Tölz is nestled between fields and the Isar river. It has a lot to offer! There are many famous churches to admire. The market place is unique. Lüftlmalerei is an old painting technique that dates back to Baroque times. You can see examples of it on the facades of the gables, still intact today. The Kurhaus is also worthy of a visit. It is located in a beautiful park. The Knight Gabriel von Seidl planned the building, which, today, is used as a concert and theatre.

The Isar river leads you out of Bad Tölz today. Following the Isar cycle path, you pedal through green landscape to Wolfratshausen. The historic rafter town is situated idyllically between Isar and Loisach. Enjoy the tranquility this cycling holiday offers, along the river. Maybe spend some time watching the rafters. Today's route has a number of hills to tackle. But the Bavarian capital is not long in coming now. The lively city of Munich is expecting you! Reward yourself in the park Englischer Garten, in one of the beer gardens, with a Weißwurst sausage and be inspired by the Bavarian capital's city square Marienplatz.
