Our bike tour to the Wadden Sea Islands will take you into the world of floating dreams! Floating dreams? That's how the Husum writer Theodor Storm once described the Halligen off the German North Sea coast. Then as now, the small marshland islands, lapped by the water and influenced by the tides, present themselves as idyllic gems in the midst of the spirited North Sea. You can start your daily cycling tours from the harbour towns of Husum and Schlüttsiel. On our bike tour to the Wadden Sea Islands you will get to know the Hallig Hooge and Langeneß. Already during the ferry rides, you will notice the artificial mounds of the Hallig islands, which seem to appear like small islands in the North Sea. In addition, you can take an excursion to the island of Föhr or the island of Amrum during our bike tour to the Wadden Sea Islands – just as you like. Both islands are known for their sandy beaches, unspoilt nature and dune landscapes. Another highlight of our bike tour to the Wadden Sea Islands is a trip to the seaside resort of St. Peter-Ording, which is known for its kilometre-long beach, unique pile dwellings and numerous kite and windsurfers. On our bike tour to the Wadden Sea Islands, you can expect little to no inclines along the way, but you should expect some strong winds, which can make cycling a little more difficult depending on the wind direction.

Day 1: Individual arrival in Husum
Your bike tour to the Wadden Sea Islands begins in Husum. Once dubbed the grey town by the sea by the writer Theodor Storm, probably the town's most famous son, Husum welcomes you with a lively old town, a colourful harbour and a surprisingly diverse range of cultural events. Visit the Nordfriesland Museum. There are insights into dike construction and coastal protection as well as into the Frisian way of life. Learn more about the Halligen off the coast, which you will visit in the coming days.
Day 2: Excursion to St. Peter-Ording, approx. 60 km + train ride
Right at the beginning of your bike tour to the Wadden Sea Islands, take the train to the seaside resort of St. Peter-Ording. Treat yourself to an extensive sunbath on the 12-kilometre-long sandy beach and watch the kite surfers as they jet across the North Sea waves. On the beach, you will notice the striking pile dwellings. For more than 100 years, they have been catering for the physical well-being of beach visitors. You cycle along the coast back to Husum. On the way, the red and white striped lighthouse of Westerhever will catch your eye. It is the landmark of the Eiderstedt peninsula.
Day 3: Husum – Schlüttsiel / Dagebüll, approx. 45 / 55 km
The second stage starts early in the morning today, but there is also a lot to experience: You start the day with the cycle tour from Husum to the Nordstrand peninsula. You will take the ferry (included) from Strucklahnungshörn to Hallig Hooge as early as 9.15 a.m., but this leaves you plenty of time in the Wadden Sea. After about an hour's drive you will reach Hooge, whose terps you can already see from afar. The Hallig is the second largest in the North Frisian Wadden Sea. Explore the small island by bike. Visit the Königspesel, an original captain's house, and the storm surge cinema, which shows the omnipresent danger of storm surges on film. In the afternoon, take the ferry (included) to Schlüttsiel, where you will stay for the next few days.
Day 4: Excursion to the Hallig Langeneß
Today you take the ferry (not included) to Hallig Langeneß. The narrow and elongated Hallig is the largest of the ten North Frisian Halligs. Explore Langeneß in a relaxed way on your bike and get to know the Hallig, which is characterised by wide meadows and small watercourses. Visit the Captain Tadsen Museum on Ketelswarft and the Friesenstube on Honkenswarft. Or how about a detour to the Nordmarsch lighthouse at the western tip of Langeneß? Take the ferry back to Schlüttsiel.
Day 5: Excursion to the island of Föhr or the island of Amrum, approx. 15 km (to Dagebüll and back)
On today's excursion day of your bike tour to the Wadden Sea Islands, you are spoilt for choice. You can choose to visit the island of Föhr or the island of Amrum. First you cycle to Dagebüll. From there you can comfortably reach the respective island by ferry (not included). With Föhr you get to know the green island. Thanks to its protected location, it has particularly lush vegetation. Explore the island by bike or enjoy the sound of the North Sea on the southern beach. On Amrum you can also enjoy a kilometre-long sandy beach, the so-called Kniepsand. Or how about a guided mudflat hike? In the evening you return to Dagebüll by ferry (not included). You will spend the night in Schlüttsiel.
Day 6: Schlüttsiel – Hamburger Hallig – Husum, approx. 45 km
From Schlüttsiel you cycle back to Husum. With the North Sea in view, you reach the dam to Hamburger Hallig after a few kilometres. The small peninsula is very easy to reach by bike. Treat yourself to a culinary break in the only inn and enjoy the view of the Wadden Sea and the surrounding Halligen. Back on the mainland, take a relaxing drive along salt marshes to Husum. Enjoy the rest of the day walking through the park of Husum Castle and visit the Theodor Storm House, which gives you insights into the life and work of the writer.
