Our classic Lake Constance bike tour is not only one of our most popular tours, but also the perfect opportunity to get to know the most beautiful corners around Lake Constance in a relaxed way by bike. You start in Constance. The city of the Council of Constance impresses with a picturesque old town, a lively harbour and an eventful history. Our Lake Constance bike tour takes you along the High Rhine to medieval Stein am Rhein, the Höri peninsula and the garden city of Überlingen. Along the Upper Lake, the largest part of Lake Constance, you cycle buoyantly past Meersburg Castle, through sun-drenched wine hills and into the Zeppelin city of Friedrichshafen. Between Lindau and the festival town of Bregenz, you cross the German-Austrian border. After a few kilometres you are already in Switzerland and cycle along the southern shore of the lake through pretty little villages back to Constance. Our Lake Constance bike tour is ideal for cycling tour beginners, pleasure cyclists and families.
We offer you our Lake Constance Bike Tour in three different categories. You can choose between hotels in category K (4*-level), category A (3* / 4*-level) and category B (2* / 3*-level).

Day 1: Individual arrival in Constance
Your Lake Constance bike tour starts in the classic way in Constance, the largest city on Lake Constance. After arriving at your hotel, take an extended walk through the Niederburg. Small alleys, crooked half-timbered houses and cosy wine taverns characterise the oldest part of the town. Climb the tower of Constance Cathedral and enjoy the panoramic view over the city, the lake and as far as Switzerland. The Imperia has been revolving at the harbour since 1993. The nine-metre-high figure is a satirical reminder of the time of the Council in the 15th century.
Day 2: From Constance along the Lower Lake
Constance – Gailingen / Stein am Rhein, approx. 40 / 30 km (Cat B),
Constance – Gailingen / Stein am Rhein / Wangen, approx. 30 / 40 km (Cat A),
Constance – Wangen / Hemmenhofen, approx. 35 / 40 km (Cat K)
The first stage of your Lake Constance bike tour first takes you along the Swiss shore of the Lower Lake and the High Rhine. You reach Stein am Rhein. The town has one of the most beautiful medieval town centres on Lake Constance and impresses with its colourfully painted facades. A few kilometres downstream you reach Gailingen, one of the southernmost towns in Germany. Now on the German side of the Rhine, you cycle to the Höri peninsula. It is known for its artistic scene. The painter Otto Dix once lived in Hemmenhofen. His house has been converted into a museum and can be visited.
Day 3: From the Lower Lake to Lake Überlingen
Gailingen – Ludwigshafen / Sipplingen / Überlingen, approx. 40 - 60 km (Cat B),
Stein am Rhein – Überlingen, approx. 40 - 60 km (Cat A),
Wangen – Überlingen, approx. 45 / 50 km (Cat K)
Today you cycle around the Höri peninsula and reach the spa town of Radolfzell. Visit the Radolfzell Minster, which has the highest church tower on Lake Constance. Over the Bodanrück (watch out, hilly!) you pass Bodman-Ludwigshafen and Sipplingen. Following the cycle path along the shore of Lake Überlingen, you reach the town of the same name, Überlingen. You can already see the stately St. Nikolaus Minster from a distance. Stroll along the approximately five-kilometre-long lakeside promenade and enjoy the view of the lake and its maritime flair.
Day 4: From Lake Überlingen to the Upper Lake
Überlingen – Kressbronn / Nonnenhorn / Lindau, approx. 50 - 60 km (Cat B),
Überlingen – Kressbronn / Lindau, approx. 50 / 60 km (Cat A),
Überlingen – Lindau, approx. 60 km (Cat K)
Your Lake Constance bike tour takes you along the Upper Lake today. First stop at the pilgrimage church of Birnau. Situated amidst vineyards, the forecourt of the splendidly decorated baroque church offers a wonderful view over the lake. Visit the pile-dwelling museum in Unteruhldingen, the oldest inhabited castle in Germany in Meersburg and be impressed by the largest collection on the history of aviation in Friedrichshafen. Lindau's old town lies on an island. Enjoy the view of the Alps at the harbour – in the foreground the town's landmarks: the Bavarian Lion and the 33-metre-high lighthouse.
Day 5: Around the Bay of Bregenz
Kressbronn – Höchst / Rorschach, approx. 30 - 50 km (Cat B),
Lindau – Arbon, approx. 50 km (Cat A),
Lindau – Horn, approx. 45 km (Cat K)
Not far from Lindau you pass the border to Austria almost unnoticed. Take a break in Bregenz and take the cable car up to the Pfänder, the local mountain of the festival city – including a fantastic view of Lake Constance and over 200 Alpine peaks. Just a stone's throw from Bregenz, you cross the Bregenzer Ach and the Alpine Rhine at Hard. Welcome to Switzerland! Visit the historic bathing hut in Rorschach and enjoy the view of the lake from the lakeside promenade. Arbon's landmark is the castle. The museum housed inside looks back on the small town's more than 5000-year history.
Day 6: Back to Constance
Höchst – Konstanz, approx. 50 / 60 km (Cat B),
Arbon – Constance, approx. 35 km (Cat A),
Horn – Constance, approx. 40 km (Cat K)
The last stage of your Lake Constance bike tour takes you back to Constance on a flat and easy cycle path. In Constance, visit the Rosgarten Museum (included), which looks back on the art and cultural history of the city. If you would like to spend some more time on your bike, we recommend a visit to the flower island of Mainau and a detour to the island of Reichenau, famous for its three Romanesque churches.
