Cycle tour from Constance to Lucerne

Day 1: Individual arrival in Constance

On the day of your arrival for your cycle tour from Constance to Lucerne, you have all the time in the world to explore the biggest town on Lake Constance. A day on the flower island of Mainau, which has a butterfly house, an Italian water staircase and many lovely restaurants is definitely a highlight. If you think you don't have enough time for that, wander through the fascinating historic, old city with its pretty harbour and lovely Cathedral. If the thought of 193 steps up to the spire platform doesn't make you quake, climb up and enjoy the wonderful views of the town and Lake Constance.

Day 2: Constance – Schaffhausen, approx. 50 km

Pedalling off today, you leave Constance, following the banks of the Lower Lake. You cycle through pretty Swiss fishing villages to Stein am Rhein. Wander through this picturesque old town and admire the detail to which the facades of these medieval houses have been painted. Sometimes on the German side, sometimes the Swiss, you follow the Rhine to Schaffhausen. The town's landmark, Munot Fortress, can be seen from afar.

Day 3: Schaffhausen – Zurich, approx. 65 km

Just a short distance by bike until another highlight comes into view on your cycle tour from Constance to Lucerne. Discover the Rhine Falls, one of Europe's largest water falls. On a boat you can go right over to the Rhine Fall rocks and feel the power and might of the thundering water around you. Always following Glatt Valley, you cycle to the fascinating cosmopolitan city of Zurich. After a walk around the beautifully intact historic quarter, enjoy spending some time on the lively banks of the River Limmat.

Day 4: Zurich – Pfäffikon – Einsiedeln, approx. 35 km + train ride

You leave Zurich behind you and cycle along the Golden Coast, as the northern bank of Zurich Lake is referred to locally, and then on to Rapperswil. You'll be able to see a huge and very impressive mountain from afar here. By bike you continue via the dam and then it's time to go up. But don't worry - you won't have to pedal. You go up to Einsiedeln by train. It is one of the most popular pilgrimage destinations in Switzerland. The Black Madonna in Einsiedeln Abbey has attracted pilgrims and tourists from all over the world.

Day 5: Einsiedeln – Lucerne, approx. 75 km

Tank up on energy for the day at breakfast time, as it's time to tackle the crowning glory of your cycle tour from Constance to Lucerne. You cycle quite some altitude up to Zuger See Lake. It's worth taking a break in Küssnacht. The town is famous because of the Swiss national hero, Wilhelm Tell. Follow in his footsteps down Hohle Gasse, where Tell is supposed to have shot the bailiff, Hermann Gessler.

Day 6: Excursion at Lake Lucerne, approx. 50 km + boat trip

Just how you spend your day in Lucerne and on the beautiful Vierwaldstätter See Lake is entirely up to you. Enjoy the magnificent views of the mountains from the steam boat cruiser. Or look down on the lake from the steepest cable car as you ride up the local Pilatus Mountain. We recommend a bike ride on the northern part of Lake Lucerne. First on the ride to Weggis, where you change to a boat that brings you to Beckenried (not included). On the shores of the lake you cycle comfortably back to Lucerne. In the town itself, don't miss walking over the world-famous chapel bridge. And don't forget to try some of the local cuisine, for example Chatzestreckerli and Birewegge!
