Unspoilt landscapes, long sandy beaches and beautiful towns – welcome to our bike tour in Jutland! You start off relaxed in Aarhus, Denmark's second largest city. From the culturally charming Baltic Sea port city, you cycle into the Danish Lake Highlands around Silkeborg. The country's highest landscape is characterised by dense forests and many lakes connected to the Gudenå, Denmark's longest river. Climb Himmelbjerg, which at 147 metres above sea level promises impressive views of the surrounding area. On our bike tour in Jutland, you can experience the early history of Midtjylland at Moesgårder Museum. Experience the island of Samsø, which is completely self-sufficient through renewable energy, on an excursion. Don't forget your bathing suit! South of Aarhus are two of Jutland's most beautiful beaches – Moesgård and Ajstrup. You cycle at a leisurely pace on our bike tour in Jutland. Thanks to the flat terrain and only a few hills, the tour is suitable for cyclists with an average level of fitness.

Day 1: Individual arrival in Aarhus

Your bike tour in Jutland begins in Aarhus. The city was founded around the year 770 and is one of the oldest cities in Northern Europe. Despite its age, Aarhus is a young city. Thanks to the university and numerous educational institutions, Aarhus has statistically the youngest population in Denmark. A flagship of the city is the ARoS art museum. Its walk-through panoramic walkway consists of coloured glass walls in the colours of the rainbow.

Day 2: Aarhus – Ry, approx. 40 km

The first stage of your bike tour in Jutland takes you to the Danish Lake Highlands. This region, unique for Denmark, enchants with hills, forests and numerous lakes. First you follow the course of the river Aarhus Å from Aarhus. The closer you get to your destination Ry, the more hilly the route becomes. But don't worry, the idyllic atmosphere around Ry, surrounded by lakes, will reward you for one or two efforts.

Day 3: Excursion to Silkeborg, approx. 70 km

Today you have different options for your cycling day. Take an excursion boat from Ry across Julsø to Himmelbjerg. At 147 metres, it is one of the highest elevations in Denmark. A path leads from the pier to the summit, where there is an observation tower. Optionally, you can cycle from Ry to Silkeborg. A special highlight of the town is the Jorn Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art. It is dedicated to the artist Asger Jorn, who was born in Silkeborg. You will spend the night in Ry.

Day 4: Ry – Skanderborg – Odder, approx. 45 km

The third stage of your bike tour in Jutland takes you along Denmark's most beautiful lakes. With a view of the highest mountains in the country – none of them measures more than 200 metres – you first cycle to Øm Monastery. Only the foundation walls of the former Cistercian abbey remain. Today, a museum, the ruins, a herb garden and bone finds remind us of the monastery's heyday. The journey continues via Skanderborg to Odder.

Day 5: Excursion to the island of Samsø, approx. 70 km + ferry ride

You first cycle from Odder to the harbour town of Hou. By ferry (not included) you will cross over to the island of Samsø. Since the end of the 1990s, the islanders have been trying to live energy-independently. They supply themselves with sunlight and other renewable energies. Speaking of sun: Samsø has the most hours of sunshine in Denmark. Get to know the hilly coastal landscape in the north of the island – including numerous viewpoints of the sea and the surrounding islands. In the south, there are numerous prehistoric monuments and kilometres of beaches.

Day 6: Odder – Aarhus, approx. 35 km

The last stage of your bike tour in Jutland takes you along the Jutland Baltic Sea coast back to Aarhus. On the way, you will have repeated views of the many wind turbines in the middle of the sea. The beaches of Moesgård and Ajstrup are ideal for a dip in the cool water. Moesgård is home to the Forhistorisk Museum – Denmark's most important site for prehistory and early history. A special highlight of the impressive collection is the bog body of the more than 2000-year-old Grey Ball Man. For a royal feeling, visit the park of Marselisborg Castle – it is the summer residence of the Danish Queen.
