Brief Information - Bike Tour Flensburg Usedom

Day 1: Individual arrival in Flensburg

Most of the German rum imports are processed in Flensburg, however the town is better known for the company headquarters of a well-known mail-order business for adults and the register of traffic offenders. A visit to the harbour with its beautiful warehouses and the Museum Shipyard is an absolute must. The northern starting point of the Baltic Sea Cycle Route is located close to the town. If you have booked rental bikes they will be handed over here.

Day 2: Flensburg – Kappeln, approx. 75 km

To begin with you will cycle along the Flensburg Fjord until you reach one of Germany´s most beautiful moated castles – the Renaissance castle in Glücksburg. From here you will cycle through the tranquil Angeln, the countryside between Flensburg and Schlei. A detour to the nature reserve Geltinger Birk, a coastal landscape with salt-flats, reed-marshes and sand dunes, is worthwhile.

Day 3: Kappeln – Kiel, approx. 90 km

Today’s destination is Schleswig-Holstein’s state capital. On your way there, you’ll cycle through the Schwansen region, featuring soft hills and steep cliffs. Further along the coast, past sand dunes, you will cycle through predominantly hilly terrain until you reach Kiel’s more urban topography. The city’s characteristic horseshoe grid around the Kieler Förde, while the Kieler Hörn offers great views of the town and the impressive sailing boats.

Today, you’re leaving the state capital behind you, continuing along the Baltic Sea coast cycle path. You will cross the Fjord on a boat and reach Laboe, a pretty small coastal town with a great beach. The scenically impressive region around the Sehlendorf Lake offers unique views of the Baltic Sea. From now on, you’ll be moving away from the coast toward the hinterlands, until you reach today’s final destination of Eutin.

Germany’s second-largest Baltic Sea island also happens to be very flat – at only 3 metres above sea-level. Back on the neighbouring Rügen, you’ll head for the coastal town of Vaschvitz. A divine place far away from all the hubbub – a great place for relaxing! You cycle to the northern peninsula of Wittow, which you reach by ferry (not included). Day 12: Sassnitz – Göhren, approx. 40 km

The Baltic seaside resorts along your route today will take you back to the 19th century. Classicistic elements, delicate woodcarvings and long piers are characteristic for the Baltic Sea townscapes.
